Hey guys i know the winter is over but i want to make sure i get this sled running really good for next winter for my 2 boys. This sled is mint not even a rip in the seat it has electric start (No battery) new sliders and new windshield. I paid $250 and made sure that the compression was good before i took it home 125 125 on both cylinders. The last owner said that he cleaned the carb ( I know he doesn't know to much about cleaning carbs ) This i have not done yet which i will soon. Also the last ower thought the problem was the coil so he replaced and the problem continued. I will try and describe what is happening.
The sled starts up fine with the choke 2nd or 3rd pull. While it is warming up if it is about to stall i blip the ckoke to keep it going. after about 5 minutes of letting it warm up i got to keep blipping the throttle on and off to get it to rev up to get it moving and then if i let off the throttle it dies. Put the choke back on and it starts again.
Does anybody have any ideas what the problem might be, do you think its the carb? a jet in the carb? needle in the wrong position? timing ? too rich in oil?
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated

yup sounds like he didnt get it all when he cleaned the carb. might be one of the passages in that carb is gummed up. soak it in carb cleaner overnight with the jets removed. change the fuel filter and the pulse line while you are at it if it hasnt been done already.

My guess it that the pilot jet is clogged. Some time it is even better to replace it instead of just trying to clean them. They only cost 4.95. But just like SRXGT067 and Maim say. Clean the entire carb. disassemble it and soak all the parts including the carb. just be aware that some of the soak solutions eat the rubber parts. Hope that helps. Brad

Thanks alot guys i will start with a good carb cleaning and buy a new main.
Maim it was funny that you mentioned the pulse line. I did not say this in my post but what i noticed it that i do not have the gas gauge on the side of the gas tank and it's been by passed some how and i'm woundering if this could be my problem. i'm going to tear it down this week

Hi Bender SRX. I have a 1983 SS440 with exactly same problem, I took the carb apart and gave it agood cleaning thinking that was the problem, and still does exactly same thing. Idles fine, top end high RPM is great, but it needs a bit of choke to get from idle to takeoff. Please let me know if you solve the problem. Thx Snoviper

thats not the pulse line. that is just the fuel gauge. it goes from bottom of tank to vent line in top basically.
the pulse line comes out of the fan side jug on the base below the carbs. its like an automotive fuel line. the rest of them should just be clear plastic lines.

I had a 292 Sno-jet doing that this winter and it was a crank seal leak.

Clean the carb extremely well, do everything that was said above, even the slightest thing will set them off, its like magic.
Snojet steve, I was just thinking that. Test the crank seal. Iv used a tool made my Snap-on which uses air pressure from an air hose to pressurize the crankcase and you will hear and sometimes see the leaks. Im sure theres tools just like that out there.
I dont reccomend this, but I have a 77 elan 250 twin and I have a custom 3" stainless exhuast on it, and it comes with a tillotson HR carb on it and its a royal pain in the arse. I have made a custom primer location for it, with a standard plunger type primer, then for the whole fuel system, a bulb primer, so the thing is ready to fire, but sometimes it runs liek ***, so being a skidoo and all, I jsut set it up on the jack stand and pin it a few times to get the clutch side cylinder running, then just let er rip, this seems to cure alot of the gremlins with this sled. But it is still cursed...

Alot of people wrote to another forum I visit last fall with a simillar problem on Phazers. That turned out to be pilot screw adj. I don't know if you have the same thing though. If your carb has a pilot screw and someone who really doesn't know what they're doing rebuilt it, It's most likely adjusted wrong.

There are several questons that need to be looked at first. What does it run like on road surfaces (flat & straight). When you cleaned it how was it done? Was the fuel screw on the bottom of the carb moved? This is just a start. Once these questions are answered then you can go from their. Brad

my enticer runs shitty no matter what terrain or type of surface im riding on...the fuel screw should be ok its never been moved...mine sometimes doesnt even start unlless u put a shot of gas down the cylinder, when the engine is cold, but if you ride it around all day and letssay you just stop for gas and you walk back out to it it will start up without that shot of gas...but even when the motor is warm it has a horrible bogg down low...has anyone put just a mikuni carb and a fuel pump on one b4??? i was just thinking of doing that and i think it should be fine once you get the jetting setin...let me know if anyone has done it b4 and if it worked out ok...thanks

Update. Well the Enticer is running Like a champ
Well guys i took the carb apart and the pilot screw (beside the main jet) i could not get out and is stripped, I also noticed that the side of the carb near the float bowl screws was damaged from dropping the carb. I found a used carb ($40) and before i picked it up i wanted to make sure the problem wasn't anything else so i removed the fuel filter and the exhaust and tried the sled and the same thing. So i went and got the carb, the guy told me that he just cleaned it, I installed it and the sled started right up first pull. I let it warm up, it was idling not to bad and then i gave it some gas and noticed right away it was running way better but still not right i took the plugs out and replaced with new ones and the thing runs like a champ. No snow here yet but i still had to take it around the yard. With a new belt it was picking the skis off the ground a bit. I used to have a 1977 GS 340 that i got when i was 13 years old and all the miles that i put on that sled until i was 17 years, i used to drive it to work and school all the time. I hope my young lads put on as many miles as i did (the oldest is 11 now and his younger brother is 9).
Thanks to all the guys who replyed to this post and helped me. It was the carb the whole time. I beleive if i could have removed the Pilot screw and cleaned it, it would have fixed the problem. I also noticed on the old carb the pilot was pushed in alot more too.
To the others that have this same problem clean your carbs and the pilot screw.
