The pipes burned thru the wires running up to the hood. I replaced
the harness and the tach still won't work. I replaced the smoothing condesor
with the same result. I did lose the key and have it "hot wired". Will this cause the tach not to work? The back light still works.

yea i dont think the tach will work with out the key. i know warmers and gas gage wont. i think i remember wondering why mine wasn't workin one time and it was cause the of the key. see if u can get another ignition barrow one or smoothing and plug it in and see if it works. if it doesnt u have that rulled out and then go from there

I don't know much about the Mountain Max, but I do know about the 00 SRX having a service bulletin. It has to do with the wire harness under the engine and its location. The wire is routed under a coolant hose and has the rubber coated metal straps that hold it in place. That part (under the engine) get chafed and needs to be repaired. I bought the 01 technical manual that has a picture and detailed instructions detailing it. When I had my 00 SRX I had the same problem along with a flashing oil light and temp light. I hope this helps. Brad
