This is for Be the Viper. I am putting a 98 srx motor in my viper. I have a few Questions. First, which coolant tank did you use and how did you plum it? I was going to plum it using the srx lines, and plug the extra out on the front heat exchanger.. Next what wiring harness should I use? I was going to put the hole srx harness in the viper, but what about the guage, and also the headlight, can I only run one bulb because two would take up too much current for the lower watt srx stator lighting coils. The last thing is I think you said it would be easier running a aftermarket can instead of the factory one, which do you recommend? Thanks in advance......

I did a search back a ways and found this from BTV:

"the guage uses all the same inputs. there is one input for the temp sending unit, you will have to wire a resistor in line to ground for the temp light. if you dont wire it up this way it will flash an open signal and you wont be able to use any other warning systems
the srx uses a temp signal to the box ,
you will just need to add the wires for the pickup and power them.

get the two different wire diagrams and trace it out, the wires are all there
"

On the cooling system you could get a water manifold from aftermarket billet heads and bolt that on and use the Viper cooling system as is, as far as the ignition, if you move the pick up on the block, you can put a later stator and flywheel on it and use the Viper wiring, makes it alot easier. been there done this.

well... its not quite as easy as bolting on the stator and flywheel, as the ign pick up must also be relocated for the smaller flywheel, you have to weld aluminum on top of the existing mounting points and redrill and tap new holes to move the ign pick up closer to the smaller flywheel on the 98 case, not hard but this has to be done or it wont start.

Well..... the point is, it's easier to move the pick up, whichever way you want to, than jury rig the wiring on the sled. Make the motor match the sled, not the sled match the motor, less work all the way around.....

If I use the viper stator and flywheel, along with the cdi, won't I have the same problems as a triple piped viper, that is lean in the mid range, and also bad fuel mileage because of having to up the jet sizes to compensate for the timing issue...

No, run the 01 srx cdi box, plugs right in. pm scott(betheviper) he can set you up here.

ok, here is what you need to do it the cheapest,

use the stator, flywheel from the viper in the srx case.

do the above mod or you can make a new bracket to hold the pickup in the new location. just make sure you get the correct clearence.

get ahold of skidoo boy on this board, he has a cdi box and the wire bypass for the viper harness. you will need this to run the sled
you can use the stock water rail if you remove the thermostat and plug off the lower hose inlet and pipe the side outlet to the thermostat housing from the viper.

this will work but will look like crap and will hit on the hood where the headlight mounts.

the best fix is to use the megapower water rail from the now defuncted maximum performance.

there is another company that makes billet heads for srx and vipers that makes a version of this too, not sure on the company

if you dont use the bigger ignition, you will be loosing your headlight and your separate thumb warmer.

as for a muffler, any of the aftermarket ones will work. stingers would be the easiest but are very loud.
most of the mufflers will let you use your chain case cover. only the stock one would need that changed.

use your viper water pump cover or block off the heated carb hose from the srx cover.

also, if you use an aftermarket exhaust you wont need to change your muffler mount on the frame.

buying the cdi box will be a wash as the viper cdi you will get 100 for anyway.

also, the stator from the srx motor is worth more than the viper one, 75-100

flywheel is worthless, toss it

while doing this use the torque arm from the srx in the viper, because this is an older srx motor, send don the cylinders, heads, and pistons and he will get back any power loss this setup has to a conventional piped viper.

now for me to steal the post,

if anyone wants i am selling my srx/piped/black/m10/crome front ended viper in any configuration you want

if you want it without skid and track, without skis, etc, ill adjust price to compensate.

i need to sell this sled after spring if its not sold it will be scrapped,
i would concider partial trades for other sleds or a wave rader or wave runners

Thanks Be The Viper

You are the man Be the Viper, I will let you know when I get it done.. Thanks

Pipes?

Snow3,
Are you using the pipes off of the SRX? If so you will need to do some healthy carving on the belly pan.

Hey crash why dont you just not put an engine back in the viper that way it would be lighter when I have to pull you back to the truck!!

Too late

Its too late rage rider the motor is already in and running, I guess my Rx1 isn't the only sled you will be behind next year.

srx piped viper, 4 and counting, though the first was actually a srx with viper coul parts. second was me in 50-60 configurations, third was xxxviper, and now you, congradualtion.

your invisible, superlight weight club coat and hat will arive in an invisible box later in the week.

Thanks for the Help

Thanks to all of you guys for the help... I fired the motor yesterday. I have a few things to do yet but the pipes are in and the hood closes, so I guess the big part is done..

YES,

PHOTOS PLEASE

Common now, you guys got a clip of my woman walk'in down the street, so lets see that sled!
