What do you think will be faster?

ill go with the apex. if they claim 140hp its closer to 120. and thats assuming its running perfect and clutched correctly. also even though yamaha builds some great motors, almost doubling the hp of a motor is a guranteed way to drastically shorten its life and reliability.

apex will have more legs on top. phazer will be a little unreliable with that drastic of a power increse I think. and you still have to get it all to the ground

I dont think that the Phazer will be "unreliable" even with a doubling of power. Are the 4 cylinder genesis engines unreliable when you almost double their horsepower from 140-150h.p. to 250-320 h.p.? Yamaha is a master of overbuilding bottom ends and not cutting corners when it comes to reliability and durability.

when you go past stage 1 you NEED to upgrade the pistons and rods on a genesis though. i have no doubt that with the proper prep work (low compression pistons, better rings and rods) that they will hold up fine, but when you make the motor to make max n/a power (11-1 compression +) it just isnt made for a turbo. i guess reliability might not be the word i was looking for. longevity is probably a better one. all that extra cylinder pressure will take its toll on the rings, bearings and case eventually. i wouldnt expect it to last more than 5,000 miles without blowing oil or losing compression. if you really look around on the 4 stroke side, there are a ton of stage 1 rx1's that either need a rebuild or have tossed a rod or have had some other major carnage. between the blown motors and lower fuel economy, (shorter range on an already too small gas tank!) i talked myself out of it.

edit: friendly debate, not crapping in your cheerios! lol!

I just figured that since it already has vibration and is really tuned pretty high for that motor.... might be trouble compared to a bone stock apex :) both would be fun though ;)
