I have a 00 SRX and heard a 1 1/4 would work if I took out the front and tunnel protectors. How much room is under there? Can I just wear the track in? Is this bad for the track if it''s not much?

if you take out the protectors, I pretty sure a 1 1/2 max with out changing the drivers. The 1 1/4 track rubs on the tunnel protectors....not much room at all....Are you asking to leave the protectors and run the track to wear it in????

hotrodd,

My Ripsaw install was completed about a month ago. I may have told you in an earlier post, but I elected to keep the front protectors in and shave the track only on the lugs that would contact those. I also removed the front third of the tunnel protectors; the area where the track angles up the steepest and forward of that to the drivers.

As far as shaving, I simply took a razor blade and trimmed no more than 3/8 inch off of the lugs that would rub. Be sure not to cut into anymore than is necessary. I believe it was only two "fingers" per row on each side. Anymore than is necessary and you'll be decreasing the percentage of the amount of traction that the Ripsaw would provide. I didn't want to go to a quarter inch just because you can't glue it back on if it was too much. Anyway, after installation, it still rubbed on the front protectors by about another 1/4 inch (yes, that much). I left it be. I chose to shave the lugs because I didn't want the full lug to rub and create that "feathered" edge that would result. By at least cutting a little off, the tip of the shaved lug will now rub differently and avoid leaving it feathered.

I've seen the results of a track (non-studded) come apart and hit the front exchanger. It's that memory that made me leave them on and try my artistry with a razor blade.

Jon
