I know there have been many posts on this subject, but I have been readin them for a while now and can't find the answer I'm looking for.
I have a Avenger II. The wiring harness is the 2 wire (1 red, 1 black). I know the black is GND and have no problem with that. The red wire needs to be hooked up to the lighting coil to get power and pulse for the tach. I am installing this on a 2001 MM700. The only place I can think of to hook it up to is one of the white wires going to the rectifier/regulator.
Many people have asked this same question. I have yet to see an answer.
Where do I hook up the red wire to get power and tach pulse on the same wire?
Anyone?

Not sure
I don't know what to tell you on your sled but on my Viper I had to hook it up to the blue/white wire up by the guage pod. Is there a blue/white wire in the harness leading to your tach? It is definately one of the wires in the harness leading to the tach, I wouldn't do it down low by the rectifier or regulator. I hope this helps you.

The tach wire is a signal for the tach but is this a source of power also? I need the wire to have both power and signal. anything that can count the mag pulse will be fine, it just needs the power and pulse.
Madmatt,
When you hooked up yours, did you have the yellow wire on your racepak or was it like mine with just the 1 red and 1 black wire?

For all those who have the 2 wire harness on the Avenger racepaks.
I installed one of these on my 2001 MM700. I tried the tach input and the tach power line. Neither one worked for both power and tach signal. I did find the wire to use though. You have to tap into one of the white wires coming out of the AC magneto and use a factor of 6 on the 3 cylinder.
Or You can modify the the 2 wire plug by cutting the tit off the plug that goes into the signal input on the back of the Racepak guage. Then take a new length of wire and tap into the tach input line from the CDI and plug this wire directly into the signal input hole on the back of the racepak for input pulse for the racepak tach signal.
Or if you don't like messing around with the factory plug on the racepak, you can order the the harness from EGT that has the yellow tach input signal seperate from the red power wire for the racepak. Then you would take the yellow wire on the new harness and tap it into the tach line from the CDI to the factory Yamaha tach (Yellow/ Black wire).
The red wire can be hooked up to any power wire in the last 2 options.
