I would like to gear my viper down, for better accelleration.. I NEVER run over 150km/h, speedo-wize, so i would rather prefer the benefits of lower gearing..

I run with a 1.5" track, so i have lots of grip..

What should be optimal for woods/hills , from 0 to say 115km/h? (0-70mph)

21/38 should be ok without changing the chain if i understand this correct, but how about even lower? say 20 or even 19 tooth?
How long chain do i need with these lower gears??

run 21/40, that will haul a$$ out of the hole and up to 80. Clutching is also a great area to work on for better acceleration.

You can run 20/38 (1.90 with 9 tooths) with the stock chain. It's what I ran when I was using a 1.5" 136" track, with good result's.

Was it noticable easyer to get going in heavy snow?

Did you test top speed?

unless you have perfect conditions and pleanty of power, dont expect much of a loss in top speed. my viper pulled 105mph on radar bone stock with 144 studs, i installed a ripsaw with 144 studs and 8 tooth drivers (equivilant to appx 2.5 teeth off the top) and left the stock gearing. it would still do 100mph easy!

Yes, it work's well in heavier snow, something we have a lot of, in Western Wa! I cant give you a good before and after opinion though. First thing I did when I bought it brand new, was convert it to a 1.5" 136" and gear it down before the sled ever saw snow!
Fastest I've ever had it up to, was 103 mph on the "dream-o-meter" which is probably around 95 mph. This was at 6000' in elevation.
You probably won't loose any more top end with a slight gear down, since your already running a 1.5" track.
