One inch with studs or Ripsaw for viper ?
Im in the middle of going for a slighltly used track. Also my 2002 viper's track is still mint with 2700 miles and 96 studs, i really think i could use more hookup.
What would you guys go for a studded aggresive one inch track with 144 studs or a non studded Ripsaw track ?
I dont want to change the drivers in order to stud the ripsaw so it would be without studs.
Both tracks are used but both have 350 to 600 miles on them.

if you run into ice, then the studded 1" track. if you NEVER run into ice then the ripsaw is the shiznit!

track / studs
im running the 1 inch hacksaw track with 144 studs down the center
she tracks great. no slidding and stops in half of the time as my buddies in the group. and the hacksaw will go though the deep stuff like a long track
does.

I hope your ride last in line! Sorry man couldn't resist.
Some type of ice traction is a must where we ride. I think for vipers 1" lug plus 144 in the middle is "the" set-up.

I wasn't sure about the extra cost of putting the 8 tooth drivers on my Viper when I put my studded Ripsaw in, but I wouldn't trade it for anything! That track hooks up, and is just incredible to ride! It's worth every penny to just change the drivers, and a chain and gear set! Just my opinion, because I did it!
It depends on how you ride. I run a 1.25" predator with no studs and it is superior hookup in hardpack, but on the ice you just have to learn how to drift the corners

But you still have to change to 8 tooth drivers to run a 1.25" track on a Viper. I think that is what he is asking about, not wether or not to run studs.

1 1/4" in a Viper, no studs, you still run 9T wheels.

I know you can run a ripsaw in a viper without studs but i dont think i would stud it just because i would have to change the drivers maybe gearing ect..
So what i was saying would a non studded ripsaw be better or a good aggressive one inch with studs.
I think i might go for the one inch with studs.

studs only help on ice or really hard packed snow. what conditions do you ride in?

I tend to ride on hard packed conditions but seen others in the group fall behind when conditions get icy if not studded.

go for the studded track then.

How About a ice ripper ! Would those little studs cause any problems ?

i think it would be fine with factory drivers and tunnel protection. maybe a little rubbing, but it will go away after 50 miles or so. a 1.25" track is dramatically better than a 1"!quebec#1 said:How About a ice ripper ! Would those little studs cause any problems ?

1 1/2 track
I'm in the market for a new track next season. I'm running an 1.25 - 6 pitch camaplast with 144 studs and 7400 miles that is finally trashed. I run hardpack in Quebec only. What do think I will benefit from an 1.5 camoplast intense track. I agree when I changed to 1.25 from 1.0 was a hugh increase in forward bite. Will the 1.5 again be a hugh increase? --mac--

To stud or not to stud?
I have (2) 2002 Vipers. I put a Ripsaw non studded track on for one season. VERY good track for hook up, much better on corners when there was snow than the stock Yoko, a little scarry on real icy corners. I was not a real fan of studding, so that is why I choose the Ripsaw. Best track when not studding. A little to noisy above 50 MPH. I took the Ripsaw out and installed a 1'' Hacksaw with 144 studs down the middle. I am not a real aggresssive rider, but like the safety of studs when it is real icy. My other Viper has the stock Yoko with 96 studs down the middle. Studding the stock Yoko made a world of difference. The predrilled Hacksaw has a pattern for 96 or 144 down the middle. I could have gone with 96 with the Hacksaw. The Hacksaw in my opinion works very nice on a Viper. Kicks a little more snow out the rear of the sled, but thats ok. Lots of room for studs, tunnel protectors, and front heat exchanger guards. I was considering a prestudded ice ripper or ice claw but did not like the wear I saw on demo tracks. The studs were not missing but starting to dull, and lugs showed alot of wear. That is why I went with the Hacksaw. I can always change out studs when needed. Hope this helps.
