Hi guys: I have two questions I'm sure some of the knowledgable folks on here can answer. I picked up a BLT front end, and am wondering:
a/ Can the radius rods supplied with this kit be polished-I am unsure of the material, but they are definitely not steel.
b/ Just had the Works shocks rebuilt, I polished the bodies, look good. Can I powdercoat the springs, or will the heat from the curing process damage the temper in the steel.
Thanks for your help. :2strokes:

if it aint steel then its aluminum. polish them up like the shocks. yes you can powdercoat the springs. they are only baked at 400 degrees. steel wont lose its temper until its WELL past that.

Stick a magnet on it, if there is any non-ferrous metal in it the magnet will stick meaning that it has steel in it. Otherwise it is probably aluminum.

Well magnet does not have any pull, but they don't seem to buff up, and never dull/mothers makes no black on them at all, like on aluminum as it cleans. I wonder if they are magnesium or something? Whatever it is they are very light. Tried Eagle one, mother's billet and nevr-dull, none seemed to do anything. Oh well, they look fine as they are.

grapeape is right. chromemoly steel.

Wouldn't a magnet stick to chromemoly?
Doesn't matter, they look OK, kind of a semi-polished matte finish.

i think magnets only stick if there is enough iron. chromemoly has very little to no iron in it if i remember correctly.

Post up detailed pics, as it is possible the BLT had material changes after Brad sold the product to Fast.

Here's some pics of one of the tie rods, beside one of the Works I've been polishing, for comparison.
