Do anyone know what kind of gas you need to put in a phazer with a turbo...is it just regular gas?

The stock phazer motor requires premium. The one I sat on did anyway.

Not exactly. For "optimum performance" it needs 93. It will still run on 87, but it wont make quite as much power.
You do bring up a good point though. If it needs 93 for optimum performance in stock form, whats it gonna need with a turbo? 104? 112? Good luck finding that at your local mom 'n pop gas station.

octane why won't it make as much poer with 87 octane vs 93?

pro, I believe the Genesis 80FI is made to run on 93 octane, but you can run a lower octane fuel and the knock control system will automatically adjust the timing to prevent a burn down. The power loss comes from the timing retard, it's said up to 4 hp can be lost. Something like that.

You wont need any higher octane with a turbo. Dont run so much boost that you need to run 112 octane. Run just enough boost that you can still run premium fuel, and not detonate like it is going out of style.

If you used the same timing curve with 87 octane the engine would knock like crazy and would blow-up eventually.pro116 said:octane why won't it make as much poer with 87 octane vs 93?
As was said, if you run 87 the knock sensors will detect detonation and will retard the timing to prevent damage to the engine.
The lowest octane you can get away with without the knock sensor going off will be the quickest and most hp.

I dont see how that would be. I could see you not gaining power by running 93 in an engine that is designed to run on 87, but I dont see how a lower octane rating will get you more power.
easy fix to still run pump gas and boost
It could simply use a thicker headgasket to lower the compression with the turbo and then you could still run 93 pump gas, of course depending on how much boost is used. A more involved mod would be a dished piston, lower compression will allow more boost to be run and still run the certain octane requirement.
Octane is the fuels ability to NOT burn, so a lower octane fuel will provide more powerbecause it explodes in the cylinder quicker then a higher octane fuel will, BUT, it will not sustain detonation either like a higher octane fuel will. With the newer ignition systems out there with a knock sensor, this shows up, so a higher octane fuel is used if the compression, cylinder pres. is high in an engine with short exh duration or overly generous ignition timing.

The stock PZ is able to run on 87, but the hp numbers Yamaha lists are with 93. This info is from the Yammie rep. 87 octane = about the 4 hp loss that PV 700 mentioned.

I sat on one at the dealer and it said Minimum Octain 91 on the cowel, that is all I know.
The srx said 91 octane too on the cowl but ran faster with 87 octane on timers.
