I bought a 2002 SXViper in April last year! I have not even had a chance to ride her yet. I was hoping I could get some input though. If I remember correctly there is about 2500 miles on it. If you open the hood up, she is clean and shinny! The guy I bought it from said he cleaned it after every ride. I have a 98 VMAX 600 and the pipes are a little rusted. So I was just want to know how you can keep everything clen under the hood? Also what is the best way to clean the outside??? :yam:

WD-40 keeps rust away, almost as well as a covered trailer does. Mothers Aluminum polish on the tunnel and wax on the hood work well. During the riding season, I use Honda Polish to clean everything except the aluminum.

I have never really done much cleaning of the sled before. The only thing I have done was at the end of the season I would take a bucket of warm soapy water and put the hood up and wash the hood. Then rinse it off with a sponge and dry it. Then I would wax the hood. So are you suggesting that I spray everydown under the hood with wd-40?? That will keep everything nice and clean? Also when you say the tunnel are you talking about the tunnel under the seat, above the track?? Sorry for being a rookie. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

CLEAN

I useually wax the out side of the tunnel once or twice a season and the hood at the start of the season and 2-3 times duringand at the end. WD-40 works great on all under the hood metal keeps the aluminum from oxadizing BUT DON"T BE SPRAYING WD-40 AROUND YOUR CLUTCH'S during the season and if you spray them in the spring be sure to clean them good in the fall. For the skid and trailing arms I spray them with rust check it creaps works great even spray inside the trailing arms

keeping the beuatiful machines clean

for waxing the hood i use endust furniture polish its lite wax and doesnt build up and it is quick and easy. i also make a excellent aluminum polish for a fair price.

Fall cleaning:

-wash & wax using a mild automotive soap and a good Carnuba based wax.

-2500psi spray wash (carefully) in the engine bay after which I use a compressor to dry her down, ...if feasable you can trailer your machine to a local spray wash.

-metal polish (Brasso) on all the shiny parts.

-Armour All on vinyl and silicone spray on all rubber (except wheels and track), this moisturizes and prevents cracking with age. I've done this on my 23yr. old Virago and it still looks like new.

-apply a coat of JB weld on some of the weaker plastic areas on the hood, specifically the hinges, this gives them exponential strength.

-although I use snoslips on the tunnel foot wells, on the front tread punchouts (no snoslips), spray truck bed liner coating (works great and if you mask it off correctly, looks great as well).
