A couple years ago, a big group of TYers got together for this cleanup. We had a blast, made friends, and contributed to our sport. IT's time to pitch in again!
Here's an email I got from Keith at Fay's Motel in Grayling. I won't be able to attend due to work schedules, but I hope my fellow TYers can get it together.
Greetings Off-Season Sledders,
We hope that everyone made it through that gnarly and highly unnecessary season called summer and are looking forward for the real deal called winter.
Before we can get to the enjoyment part of winter there is this pesky interim season called fall which brings with it a little business to attend to.This is when we arm ourselves with weapons of little destruction (WLD) and venture out to destroy some brush.
With some 70 miles of trail to brush and only a handful of volunteers to get said job done we find ourselves taking part in an annual ritual which is just above begging. That would be asking you, the avid sledder, for some help.
Last year a number of you requested that we contact you with the dates when we are going to be hosting a brush bash. Those dates are Sept. 25th and Oct 2nd.
The agenda is that we meet here at Fay's at around 9:00ish, punch in, split up into groups that are armed to the gills with chainsaws, loppers, and various other forms of WLD and head for the trails to kill brush. Each group will have within it an AuSable Valley Snowmobile Assoc. member that is somewhat familiar with the trail system ( we've not lost anyone for more than a day so far ) and is very familiar with multiple union contracts to ensure that everyone gets an adequate number of breaks.
LODGING: If you would like to come up the night before or perhaps stay over after a grueling day of brush bashing or stay for both nights, Sandy and I are happy to extend our usual 50% off thing that we do. My Dearest Pam, that's 50% off the room rate, not half a room.
Unfortunately this does not include the Jacuzzi Suites but we can do better than full price on those as well.
EATS: Because people are going off in different directions it's pretty much left up to the individual to take care of him or herself during the day and we are working on getting a celebratory brush basher's dinner set up here at Fay's after the day's events. It ain't gonna be prime rib but it'll be good!!!
The club will furnish bottled water ( daytime use only!! ) and traditionally there will be something a bit stronger at the Fay's dinner and campfire for those that stay over.
Seriously folks. Please remember that we are unpaid volunteers and we can use some help in getting the trails whipped into shape and this offers an opportunity for you to meet some of our club members and others that enjoy the sport.
If you'd like to lend a hand please reply to this email and let us know if you need a room and/or if you're going to stick around for dinner afterward.
Thanks for your support and as always,
Ride Often and Please Be Safe
