yamaha killed off the banshee.

I think it was time for it to go - awesome unit with an awesome run (19 years) - last of the 2-stroke ATV's for Yamaha - the Raptor and YFZ's are equally awesome - the styling was starting to get dated

i think its pretty ridiculous when its one of the top 3 most popular quads around next to the honda 250r . i'm sure they'll do like the automotive manufacturers and try to redesign it from the ground up like the suburban, and camaro etc... and re-introduce it later on.

yamahas 2007 line-up was a big disappointment.

they took 1 year and got rid of 2 quads and threw some different colors at a few of their already existant quads.

it was a big disappointment for me.....i thought their sleds were too. maybe im just expecting a bit more.

I think the lineup is pretty good
If you take the time to look at all the 700FI grizzly's features and specs you would see its a really good bike and though it might not be the fastest its probably the best allround bike and that the new Big Bear is retarded
And we also still got the banshee so its all good.

it's sad that the banshee is gone, but there's no doubt it was dated and needed a redesign. nearly 20 years without massive changes is a hell of an accomplishment, and says that they didn't hold back when they made it in the first place. Hoping the sell more via annual update.

that's also part of why I'm not super dissapointed with BNG's, if all you get is BNG's, it means they made it right the first time, and didn't withhold features to add in later and sell you the same bike/sled a second time.

I would expect them to redesign it in the next 5 years sort of like the Phazer. It wouldnt make any sense to drop one of the best "Mod" quads and not replace it. What do they have left, the raptor? (my banshee eats raptors) I expect an all out makeover.

I doubt it'll be back as a 2-stroke tho. I hate to say it but it'll probably be a parts bin solution when it comes back, Vector motor with a gearbox or some such.

which would be cool, don't get me wrong, but not exactly in the spirit that the Banshee has developed (fast, cheap, cheaper still to mod).

it's the end of an era either way.

what they should do is fing the engine castings from my 89 rz 350 run another round of production stick that engine in the yfz 450 chasis. that right there would be the fastest stock quad ever built. for those of you that dont know what a rz 350 is well its basically the same engine as the banshee but its has power valves and where the banshee is rated at 48 horses the rz has 63 not to mention tonnes more torque thanks to the ypvs. mines done up pretty good and up to110 mph im ahead of my buddys katana600 put it that way it would be the perfect compliment to a new frame and no new expensive engeneering needed
just my dreams

Banshee was outdated, plain and simple. Yes is did have huge hop up potential but was not a good trail bike. In point and shoot type riding it was awesome but far too small of a market to be profitable. YFZ 450 and raptor 700 are light years ahead of it and are much better quads.

What I want is the new 80hp 500cc phazer motor in the YFZ or new raptor chassis. Now that would be a quad.

Yeah the technology shows on the raptor and 450 vs. the banshee, but pound for pound??? there is nothing like layin the smack down with my little 350. I hate to see the 2-stroke family go extinct from yamaha...

Like somebody already said the Banshee is still being sold in Canada for 2007 and probably some years to come. As far as being outdated, yeah the design is old but it was designed for a different purpose than the 450 and Raptor and in the environment it was designed for is still a great chassis. If you're riding in the trails no, but in the dunes its a way better ride than either the 450 or the Raptor is. You still can't get that thrill from the new four-strokes either, even the modded ones are boring to ride after 10 minutes compared to a good running Banshee ;)!

I have a friend with the rz 350 motor in his Banshee, big improvement in low end power. Yamaha should have updated the banshee back in 95' with a new chassis, updated plastic, and a powervalve motor. Oh well, I guess that gives us yamaha guys projects to do. If all yamahas were perfect we'd have nothing to talk about here!!! I wonder how many people Banshee's have mangled in the last 20 years? I've personal seen atleast 3 people get hurt because the power got away from them!!!!

R.I.P. Banshee

And there are alot of good reasons to go 4-stoke these days. So its no suprise closing out the banshee.

Banshee dominated sand and as for trails 250r was much more limber and lighter. Thats whey the 250r took over the racing.

I would never go back to a 250r or banshee after riding the new quads. So if you own one...best quad in there days. But there is no comparison to the new quads in suspension and "smooth power"

I guess it depends where/how you ride. I think the new fourstrokes are great quads but where I ride "smooth power" translates to "no power"

The thing that I still like about the Banshee is I can buy a set of pipes, a good airfilter, and a topend gasket kit, spend about 30 bucks to have the head done and about 6-8 hrs working the cylinders and it will take $2000 at least to get a new fourstroke even close to it.
