Anyone ever try making there own? I have a tig and know how to weld aluminum. I dont see where I would even have to do any welding. I know where I can get aluminum heims for $10 each. Anyone ever try this. It does seem like it would be that hard to do. Im looking to buy a set of stocker and im getting quotes for used ones that are more than new ones. My dealer says $34 new each. Im debating on it. Let me know what you guys think.
Thanks Lance

BTW new to the site.
Just bought some sleds first ones I have had since I bought a new 90 exciter and sold it in 92. Picked up a 98SRX and a 01SXR. So hello and thanks for all the help I will be needing lol.

Welcome. You find this site to be the BEST web page for Yamaha sleds and information from some of the best people around the world. Wow, what a mouth full, but it is true. The radius rod idea is a good one and I would like to know what you find out.

I thought about making my own radius rods a few years back and talked to a machinist about getting some aluminum rod to do it with and his main concern was wether it would stand up to the pounding without bending.Although from what I've researched it's all in the makeup of the rod ie the type like 7076 etc,the stuff like aircraft quality aluminum would probably be better but I really dont know for sure.It should be a worth while project to do,good luck.

be alot easier and cheaper in the end to just use bender racings chrome moly rods, they are 140 bucks for all 4 of them plus they come with aluminum steering tubes and drag link, they are light but strong, plus it all just bolts on.

I have built drag sleds with aluminum front suspension componets and they wont hold up to rough trail riding, too flimsy.

Where can I find those. I looked on there site. I didnt see them. Thanks for the info.

BLT also makes chrome-moly front end, not sure if they are still made, but there is definitely still some around at dealers, check on any sites that are FAST dealers. 9er

I have done a google search for these rods they are all over the place for $5 any length! I almost bought the Pioneer front end kit for $240! Thanks for the link there! Opened my eyes!

CBperformance makes nice aluminum radius rods. I believe they heat treat them for strength. They held up on my sled with alot of abuse this last winter. Give Bruce at cb a call, I'm not sure if he'll give away any secrets, but he's a great guy to talk with.

Could someone with the longer rods give me the length of theirs? Thank you! Mine seem to be 16" from blunt end to inside of the round end, How much longer is a long traveled rod?!
