Does anyone have a trick to hold the primary clutch so I can loosen the bolt on the end of the crank? I was able to use a strap wrench on my previous sleds to hold the clutch, but it is not long enough to go around the Viper clutch.
Thank, G.B.

I always used a broom stick.I put it through the primary and rested the other end on the secondary. If you use an impact gun you really dont even need to hold the primary, just zip it off.

they make a holder to hold the clutch in place to remove it with the puller. it is about 20.00 no better tool than the right tool. ski

I use a breaker bar similar to boomer's method. Put it through the towers, and the other end rest on the secondary (top or bottom, depending on if you are tightening or loosening). I personally dont use impact guns on my clutches, worried about throwing the crank out of spec, since they are only press fits.

just use an impact the bolt will come right out

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I had thought about placing a wooden handle through the towers but wasnt sure if I would damage the clutch. I was going to buy the clutch tool and thought that it would just be another tool that I used once and then trew in my tool box. If it wasnt for adding electric start, I had no plans to remove the clutch.
Thanks again, G.B.

Viperino,
I have always used a strap wrench on my Polaris clutches without a problem. I have three strap wrenches (2 rubber, and 1 nylon strap) that are all too short. I looked at a few tool stores and could not find a strap wrench that is long enough to go around the primary outer edge. I think I am going to try a few of the suggestions listed above.
Thanks, G.B.

you could try an old pants belt. I use an old leather belt in place of a strap wrench all the time for stuburn oil filters
