Throught the site there is an opportunity to buy a 97 600 twin motor, etc for my 96 600xt. The motor in my 600 needs some work (ie, one cylinder is gone and the head re-worked.) If I pick up the 97, what all will I need from a 97 and what will I just use off my 96? I was running a thin hg with psi twins. I was jetted and clutched to match it. The motor issue wasn't a burn down, it was time to re-ring and I tried to push it one trip too many and a ring went on me. Is this a fairly straight forward swap or do I need to do alot and use other parts etc...

I'm not doubting Maxdlx, but I think the exhaust was different because of the change in body styles. I'm just checking if that is the only thing and then I have the question of running my twin pipes and clutching and jetting etc. I think in 97 things switch to hyd brakes, did that change things on the secondary? Etc. Just double checking is all.

In my messing with a 98 twin and a 96 xt I didn't find any difference in the motors. It appears that the 600xt was the trial for the updated motor that was used in 97/98. Our 96 xt has the same jetting and such as my 98. Our 95 600 was the old cylinder design and ran about 4 sizes richer mains. The old design also has the bigger 6-bolt reed cages were as the xt and sx used the same smaller 4-bolt reeds. Based on this I would say it's a bolt in the new one and go.

If your bottom end is good I have the cylinders and head off my 98 I'd can sell you.

I'm sure I have some "debris" in my bottom end considering how the piston and cylinder looked. I didn't pull the bottom out of the sled but it's close and I could easily do that. I don't know the condition of the bearing/seals though.

I know things are slow on here this time of year, but someone has to have tried this or looked into it. I've tried the search and I'm not pulling anything up.
