Has anyone here made there own tools for taking apart the primary clutch. I have never done this before but it appears you need a special holding fixture and bar wrench to seperate the spider from the fixed sheave..Any help would be appreciated...

You need clutch puller first. I used an impact gun to remove the primary bolt. Just held the clutch firm with my hand when using the gun. More difficult when putting back on. Used a smaller 18" wooden pole slipped thru the clutch and jambing the clutch firm against the belly pan. Decided to buy a clutch holder now and now remove and re-install the clutch by hand with a long handled impact wrench. Much safer this way. Also I took a couple of plastic washers and slipped it onto the puller bolt. Then with clutch out, slipped the puller back in to catch the threads, then used an impact gun,low pressure and slowly thighten the bolt into the clutch. This compresses the spring and takes the pressure of the 3 retaining bolts on the sheave cover. Thus easy to do clutch work inside clutch, ie) change weights, rivets, etc.Only tool I made was a center to center tool for clutch alignment, works well.

Your best bet is to remove and install the clutch by hand. Impact wrenches work, but their is a danger for damageing bearing in the long run. Once the clutch is removed look at the back of the fixed scheeve. You will see three indents (holes). Those are the mounting spots to seperate the clutch. I had one of those plates made for me, so I can do my own clutch work. Brad

I bought mine from maxx perf. They had them on sale a few years ago for something like 269.00. It is well worth the investment..................SRXtreme

Home made clutch tools

I figured out how to make my own disassembly tools..They are very low tech but they work just fine and inexpensive also..(about $5.00 give or take)..I started off by drilling a hole in my work bench the same size as the shaft of the spider assembly(1 1/8"). I then placed the clutch in the hole (minus the cap, weights and rollers and made holding fixtures out of 1X3 pine..see attached picture..To remove the fixed sheave I puchased 1/4" X 1 1/2" X 3' steel bar and drilled 2 holes in it to match up with 2 holes where the starter ring gear is attached..Then pull the bar clockwise to remove the fixed sheave..
