Ok well i found some bad news today.... Upon getting my sled out and doing some stuff to it, i decided to take a look at my clutches and then i seen it. I have a crack in one of the towers on my primary! :whine: :whine: :o| #$%&*

My question is, are there any gains from buying an aftermarket primary verse just another new oem unit?

I'll post some pics later of what would have been severe damage if i wouldnt have seen it :o|

Let me know what you think or know on this subject

Here is a pic i took with my phone.

no advantage other then strength if you had a 1000 triple race engine, then I could see it, but with a 700 stocker or even moderately built 700 the stock primary will be fine.

Do you guys advise a whole new everything? Or do you think i could get by just replaces the moving sheave? I don't know if everything would take a dump around the same time, or if i could get by just buying a new sheave?

Thanks guys

depends on the mileage on it and if other parts are within specs, then heck ya, all ya need is a new sheave. Its not uncommon at all to find a heat checked and cracked sheave on a srx, the 8dn belt is very hard and can run hot, it eventually checks and cracks the sheaves, most sleds with any decent amount of miles on them will have these and a slight groove worn in them from the belt.

I have about 7,500 miles on it, and last year when I got it back from the shop.... He told me i was gonna need one soon. He pointed out the grooves to me that you mentioned and my little plastic buttons that ride in the towers were shot and put some grooves in them. He said i had about one more season out of it and that is all it had i guess ha......

Is there anything else i can really check for inside on the spider that would let me know its taken a shat? Everything else as for the tid bits inside it are all brand new last year.

the spider doesnt really wear, unless you go thru the plastic pucks into the aluminum. I would just replace the moveable sheave and plastic pucks on spider, just be sure to double check the inner staionary sheave, for heat checks, cracks etc.

I have a primary clutch with a cracked moveable shive but spider & fixed shive are perfect. $55 shipped. Does not include weights, rollers or primary cover.
