Hey guys,
I bought a new hacksaw the end of last season... I am having second thoughts about installing it. Should I trade it for a 9830 instead? The lugs on the hacksaw seem kind of soft. what do you guys think? I plan to stud it with 192 studs as well. Would I be better off with a 9830 on the Viper?

Ripsaw gets my vote, but I have no experience with a 9830.

The 9830 is about the best all around track you can get. I love the one i have on my srx, does great everywhere. Maybe look into the 9818 too ive heard good things on that.
If you go off trail a lot the ripsaw is not for you. As you said it feels like it has soft lugs like the ripsaw my guess is it'll probably wear out quick and rip lugs off.... (my experience with a ripsaw)

Topgunn is correct on the whole off trail thing. I've ran a 9818 and I was much more impressed off trail with it. Groomed trails I would maybe go the hacksaw but with a stock Viper you should only need 144 studs.

I love my ripsaw. people that seem to be wearing them out must be riding different than me and my family. dads vector has a track that still looks new (cant remember exactly the mileage, but it has to be near 2000 I think) my viper with a ripsaw that I bought with 600 miles and I put another 1500 or so on still looks new.... I would go with the hacksaw myself. whats your riding style?

So in the final analysis, two identical sleds with the same weight riders, how would the Ripsaw vs. 9830 (which is 1") play out?
I have the hacksaw...not the ripsaw as per my original post..

Most everyone who has tried both of these tracks and has experience with both these tracks will tell you the 9830 is an all around better track. On the powder it is no comparison, 9830 hands down. When they are both on the hard pack, they are dead even (several races). My vote has always been on the 9830.

If clearance was not an issue, what is the longest stud you could put in a 9830?

1-1/4"? - 1-3/8"?

not absolutely positive, but i think i have 1.37's(woody's) in my 9830
I have 144 Woodys Signature studs 1.075 in my stock track now. I have the track splenty tight and you can some little tiny scratches in the top of the tunnel. I think any longer then that you would be pushing it pretty close through the axle area and at the top of the tunnel.

What kind of improvment did the 9830 give you over the stock track?
the 9830 is huge improvement over the stock track!!

anything is far better than stock. I went with a ripsaw as I have no want for studs and the difference is amazing. feels like an extra 10 hp since it actually goes now where I could spin it even when I was going like 50 before with the stock track
