I recently picked up some gears for my 98 srx they are for the 13 wide chain. when i pulled my old gears and chain out they are the 15 wide ones with a 15 wide chain. just wondering if i can use a 13 wide chain with my new gears and be ok? or do i have to use the 15 wide chain with that machine?

this will only be used one weekend for grass dragging can i get away with using the 13 wide chain and gears on my 98 srx ? i don't intend to use it during the season just for the one weekend.

thanks for the offer tomseal6 but the race weekend is in 2 weeks would take too long too ship and i still need time to tune a bit. thanks for the info richierich i'll just use the ones i have with a 13 wide chain. can it be used for regular running or is it best to only use the smaller chain and gears in a pinch?

i have a 23 and 37 gears and a 68 link chain for 98-99 srx.if those are sizes you want to run.i can ship them global priority flat rate and you would have them in 4-6 days.

some guys run the 13 wide all the time for weight saving's.i guess depends on the condition of gears and chain .

this is my first time dragging so i'm not looking to be extremely competitive just to get my feet wet and see how i like it. i figure 1.90 is better than my stock 1.60 and should give me some better acceleration.

gearing extremely low is not always the best way to the fastest et in a given distance, what lower gearing does is take off load from the clutch's from the engine, in simple terms, your working the engine less with a lower gear(higher numericly), this helps aid in getting it moving only. The bigger the top sprocket is the less it bends the chain and reduces rolling friction in the chaincase. Plus using a 1.95 ratio will give you alot better mph in drags, its still plenty low to help with the accelaration. The taller(lower numericly) gear keeps the belt lower in the primary and is easier to keep the clutch's around 1:1 ratio, means the belt has the same radius of bend in the front clutch as the rear clutch, this makes for efficent operation and thus the best power transmitted to the track, where you need it.

I raced a stock 02 srx for one year and won with it 12 times out of 14 races, other 2 were 2nd place finishes. multiple classes, 700 stock triple, 800 stock triple, 21/41 ratio in it. With lower gearing 19/40, and 18/40, it was much slower mph, close to the same et though, I wanted the extra mph by the end, then you dont have someone nudging you out the last 25feet.

the srx likes to be loaded and shifted hard, it likes to tractor its way down the track, load it hard on clutching/gearing and get it to come out of the hole around 8000-8100rpm, then let it climb slightly to 83-8400rpm at the very finish.

thanks mr viper so you think i'm close enough with my 21/40 ? i'm racing in the amateur stock class. most guys in the class don't even change anything just bring their winter rides and run them.

Have fun at the race and hope you get back on here to post your results

yea i know exactly what your saying don, most of the races i won i spanked em pretty good with that 19/40 ratio (works very good off the line) but they did nudge up to me towards the end but always crossed the line first but i didnt care cause i was winning. i never really cared about ET's in 500 feet i just wanted to get there before the other guy did
