I might be comming into a "next to free" 84 vmax. have yet to see it, but owner says motor is blown, both cylinders bad. Could mean ALOT of things....

Just looking and trying to decide how available these motors are, or if anyone has a suggestion for a cheap full replacement motor if needed

its gonna run me more money in fuel to pick the thing up than what the guy wants for it!!!

I am gonna try to see the sled b4 Haydays so I can determine what parts are needed. spoke with the owner lastnight and he thought the bottom end was ok, but felt the cylinders are trashed. I'll see
are the 600 cylinders able to just bolt on and go?

No, I am 100% sure they will not bolt on, have seen lots of 540 jugs and motors on ebay though!

Monty,
Watch the cranks. They seem to fail. I don't know if the engines fail due to owners rejetting them or what. several I saw had leaner jets in them. I have 6 engines that need rebuilding. I am sending off three cranks to had done. One engine is going back together now. I have 3 83 V-Maxes, 1 85 V-Max and 1 86 V-Max, Soon to arrive. An 87 V-Max. Haveing is hauled from WI. I don't have the 84. All 540s were the same from 83 to 87 and to 91 (in Canada). If you need some parts or are looking to sell it (if the sled is in good shape) let me know. Brad

I'll keep you in mind Brad. I have not see the sled yet so its still all up in the air. These vmax's dont fit any of my vintage race classes out here so I am thinking I might just put it back together and let the girlfriend ride it this winter. We'll see
Kinda thinking of taking me GPX338 that I picked up this summer and turning it into a grass dragger. Vintage grass is picking up alot of momentum now.
Any of you draggers have grass setup suggestions?

Right now its still up in the air. Joe will do it at the end of this month, but Jeff Haugen is heading this way on the 15th or 16th oth this month.
I wish I would have done this when you had some of those Yamahas for sale last year. Brad

just for my own couriosity..... any price difference between Jeff and Joe? I am going with Joe
KillerKlown: I might end up loosing the '84 vmax. Guy is not willing to wait till Saturday for me to make the trip to see it. Its 2hrs away - will piss me off if we cant get it!!!! I already have a set of cylinders lined up with good chrome for $75 each

Monty,
If you don't get the sled and don't have any use for those cylinders, Please let me know. I would like another set. I have one good set and one steal sleeved set. Brad

After 3 phone calls - none returned, 8 email conversations - The best I could do was to be to the vmax by 7pm yesterday. Keep in mind its a 2 hr drive. Well the slug sold it at 5pm.
Brad, contact Darrell Saxton at Alex Sport and Salvage. Local junk yard that has the cylinders. Tell him I sent you: saxton@rea-alp.com nice guy to deal with

I don't know if you guys are interested :dunno: but there is a V-Max engine on E-bay Item number: 220025674069

SRXer,
