Hi everyone!

This may be a stupid question but I`m going to repaint my SRX and I wonder wether I should stick with the Yamaha blue pearl, or if I should try a new color.

This is how she looks now.. . The hood has several cracks in it and the paint is really bad in genera. (I think the previous owner didn`t bother to put a cover over it when he welded something in his shop, looks like sparks has landed on the hood).

The "problem" is that the new color will have to match the blue plastic under the hood, the only color I can think of is black?.

Would black look cool, blue windscreen and some new graphics from redmate?.
Any suggestions?. Tonight when I was in the shower I took a look at the Head`n Shoulders bottle, the text on the bottle was black, blue and pink, it looked kind of cool.. but hey... pink snowmobile???.

If I plan to go with the original paint, what is the correct name of the color?. Color code?.

Oh, how much paint will I need (ready mixed), I`m guessing... 3-4 deciliters (0,3l - 0,4l) ?.

:)

dupont has the code for yamaha blue. if your going to go with a black coul theonly way i think it would look correct is to black top it. paint everything up from the bellypan black and cover the seat black, do the white diamonds with the srx blue instead of white, if your careful you can use your existing blue paint as the diamonds and tape them up before painting the rest black

i have a seat cover in black for an srx if you decide to go this way.
you would also need to go with black windshield and paint your guage pod to pull of the black top look.

seen alot of mxz s done this way, not sure if they came that way or guys just changing parts out for the look.

as for amount of paint, you will be hard pressed to find a shop to mix half a pint, this is usually the smallest amount they will mix. if your painting blue over blue, you wont need much.

i think if you did stock graphics again, and did a white pearl, that it'd look cool. white skis, paint trailing arms to match, and polish tunnel, change insert in seat to grey. thats my opinion. i'll see if i can photo shop it kinda.

you could try the herculiner stuff on your bellypan, and paint your hood however you want.

you might find a new hood with good paint for less than paint and sticker on your old one.

maybe red hood and arms, and do a superman thing, maybe the forks in the diamond.

Ho guys! Sorry for responding so late, had to travel to Oslo to help my brother with restoring his livingroom.

Betheviper, I bet my sled would look cool if I followed your advice, but I`m not going to do it that thorougly, I`m just talking about painting the hood and maybe polish the tunnel.

Right now I`m thinking of painting it black, without any pearl because I need to paint something on my car also (rear bumber + hatch), which is black, so that way I can paint both my sled and my car with the same color.
Money is an issue!.

Will it look boring in black?. With blue windscreen and some custom graphics from Redmate?. If redmates graphics are to expensive I might order a few oem graphics from Rich.

aSRX600guy, red could be cool, but the neighbour girl has a red V-Max and I don`t want to look like her... hehe:).

Gees guys I`m still wondering wether I should do it the cheap way (black, same as my car) or if I should get a special paint for my sled.. hmm. The thing is that I have to use some money on a cold air kit pre filters cause it runs like a bitch in the powder.

Well I`ll keep you posted whenever I start working with the hood!

I would go black with silver screens, ski handles, maybe crome windshield..I know you can buy polished checker plate that is very thin and light it would look good down the side of the tunnel....

keep it blue, You can tape off the stickers scuff the blue and add some new color, then pull off the tape and clear everything including going over the stickers. You could also add some pearl to clear. I saw an srx in vt that had clear done with a touch of pearl and it looked nice. I like the blue...and the graphics on the 99. I also think this would be easier. when I had a 98 srx my friend john cleaned the hood up this way and it looked awsome
rock on!

Hi guys! Thanks for all the replies! :).

I think I will paint it black, I will paint the hood, traling arms and maybe tunnel sides if I don`t polish them. Going to order paint tonight, can`t wait to start spraying! ;)

Good evening!

I just payed the guy for the paint, ordered 2 liters L041 black, 1 liter plastic primer & 1 liter "filler" . I still haven`t decided wether I should order some stock graphics or if I should order from redmate, redmates`s graphics look awesome but they are expensive for me.. .

We`ll se.. .

Oh, will it look OK with black trailing arms?. And maybe black steering "rods" (I don`t know what they are called, but I mean the rods that goes out to the trailing arm).

Should I paint the windscreen with the stock pearl blue color?. (I have 2 deciliters with Yamaha blue pearl, came with the sled).

Should I paint or polish the tunnel/foot boards?.
I know polished tunnels/foot boards look cool but.. will it stay shiny or?.

I'd get some of Redmater's graphics. ;)! I'd definitly go with black trailing arms. The rods that you are talking about are radius rods. I'd paint them black also. I'd go black on the windshield too. Noticing a pattern??? :dunno: LOL

I'd leave the tunnel the bare aluminum and shine it to death. Can you say :bling:

Have you looked into getting oem sticker? I remember them being a fortune.

maybe you should look into having some highschool art student airbrush something for ya.

Hi guys! Good to hear that you think black will be cool! :).

Going to paint the hood, trailing arms, radius rods and one of my windshields black, going to paint the other windshield Yamaha blue pearl, that way I can swop them to see what looks the best.

I just ordered parts from Rich:

1x Yamaha emblem (windshield)
2x SRX emblems
2x 700 triple emblems
1x warning decal (just to obtain the "originial" look)
3x spark plug gaps
6x NGK BR9ECS
1x windshield trim (the trim on the windshield)

MTN PERF. Cold air kit
MTN PERF. Scoop pre filter
MTN PERF. Long blue flap
MTN PERF. Blue heated grips

That`s all, can`t wait to start working on the sled, I hope I will have a better performing & looking SRX this winter:). Will keep you posted!
