hey jsut wanted to see if these numbers are right
for my 98sx 700, 1 layer removed i got a compression of 132 across the board
then on an enticer 340 i got 115.
does this sound right?
also on the enticer when i put the airbox on it doesnt run good at all and will only rev so high and wont move but when i take it off it runs perfect. the air box is clean. any suggestions? down size on main jet? current is 140

Hmmm try to look in your service manual if ya have one. That would be sweet to have this info in the Tech info index. I tried to find mine in the owners manual and couldnt
sounds ok to me, the old enticers and phazers ran fairly high compression, they had to in order to have any power. The sx motors were low compression motors and only around 115-120 on my guage stock. it also matters if you have the correct sp plug adpater for spark plug hole and the brand guage you use, dont get fixated on the number because they will all read differnt. As long as its almost even across the baord, the engines rings are in good shape.
If your trying to run the enticer now in the summer the reason it will run better without the airbox is its a piston port engine and its rich, by removing the airbox your leaning it out a couple jet sizes. the airbox make them run richer, and these older piston port and cylinder reed engines have alot of spitback, this adds to the fuel vapor inside the box and adds to the fuel mixture making it richer, by taking in nothing but fresh clean air it will run better when its hot out but youd burn it down in the winter without redoing the jetting in the carb for the increased airflow.

with the airbox on it will run not at all which i thought was weird
well its jetted with airbox on to run at -20 degrees F, its 75-80 degrees out now, I would guess its a little rich.
