The first thread on my 88

I am gonna need to find some parts for this beast. I probably want to get an old stock pipe and muffler just to get er running. Once I know how good it is I would like to run a set of aftermarket pipes at the least. Da track is munched so a new one is in the future, but hey the sled only cost $100 so I cant complain. Of course there are many options for tracks :dunno:

I see this one http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/produ...d=3&productId=p01176&leafCatId=30905&mmyId=25

or this

There are taller lug ones avail, but they say "measure your old track" yeahh that's pretty smoked down the cords are showin through on the outer edges. Figgerin my weight is such that the machine will think I'm riding double I should stay under 1" for lugs and picks. Anyone with a Exciter L/C with any tips on clearence issues would be welcome.

Also dunno about "long tracking" what would this involve, obviously when getting a new track this is worth considering

I assume I should stud the track and get some carbides too

I have an 1987 that i ride with a 136" track that has 1.25 lugs on it and the only problem I have is trying to get it installed, the 9 tooth drivers make it hard.I have a set of 8t and 7t that i am going to try this winter but i will have to regear an do a few more things.
I used the track extentions off a 1990 Phazer to fit a 136" and made my own tunel extention along with using a rear heat exchanger from a 1996 MM. My track is not studed and only needed them for about 3 miles this past winter.

What is the problem with the drive sprokets? Are the cleat holes (sorry for jargon screwups) spaced differently that the stock track?

I had not considered you need to extend the tunnel etc.. It's good to know you can add parts to the suspension vs getting a whole new unit... I may just stick with a stock length track to keep a lid on the project cost. But a new track is a few months out anyhoo

As a bonus the sled came with a Yamaha factory service manual, and so far this is reasonably similar to how my 87 Formula MX was put together. I had torn that pretty much apart over time and have fairly good mech skillz so this should not be a big deal to get runnin for me. ;)!

Ya to go to a 136 track you need to extend the tunnel but that is simple. The deal with the drivers is that when you get up to 1.25" lug on the track there is not much room to get the drive axil back in but it can be done. PM me if you want demensions and pic of what I have done. NOW is a good time for me since the seat is off and I am working on the cooling system.

man, we got a 88 phazer nearby my house here for sale for $100 and its in great shape. track is in great shape, the guy is a clean fanatic, and its complete and starts on first pull (second or third after sittin during the summer).
