Ok, I thought I was in the clear, but it just isn't so. I picked up a jug for my 96 600xt from a member here. I knew it was from the newer (97) twin and I thought they were the same jug. I figured casting numbers would be different but no biggy. The new jug looks great (can still see the cross hatching.) Props to Ryan for a great deal. However when I compare it to my old jug, the difference looks like where the reed cage bolts up. My 96 has 6 bolts and is not exactly rectangular. The newer one has only 4 bolts and is rectangular.
Am I screwed?
Am I screwed?
Bump. Does anyone know?

I'm not famililar with that engine, but..
it will run, but I'm not sure what it'll do to the engine. you'll have air flow differences for sure, maybe porting and compresssion differences too. but then they run staggered compression on vipers, and often run staggered jetting on everything else. I even knew a guy who ran 1 cylinder stock and the other 30 over on a xcr440, but I don't know how long it ran like that.
were it mine I'd try it like that on a couple of short trips and see what up. worse case you have to rebuild it.

I'm not sure that's exactly what I want....

I'd think the porting is more important than the reed cage. is the porting the same?

IMO i wouldnt run 2 dif jugs. i would either resell the 97 and get a 96 or try to buy another 97 jug and get the cages for it. i have cages if u go the 97 way but i say ur best bet its to resell it and get the right year jug.
