SRX compression? Before I send to Mrviper
Just wondering if someone can tell me what the compression reading is on a 98 srx 700. Mine has 12 500km on it or roughly 7800 miles so I figure it's due for some new rings. I figured while it's apart i'd send it to Mrviper and get it ported. I did a compression check before i tore it down and i got 127 psi on all three jugs. on two of the jugs there's a score mark (just one line) below the exhaust port almost dead center of the port. same mark and spot on both cylinders. I had the motor apart at about 8000km for some crank problems and saw them at that time but it had been running fine and decided to just leave it. the marks have not gotten any worse and i put 4500km on it this last winter and she ran flawless and as strong as ever 118mph on gps. my question is should i just leave it as it has been running fine and the marks are low in the cylinder below where it would make compression or should i get it fixed? the rest of those 2 cylinders are perfect you can still see the crosshatch almost everywhere. any input would be great thanks

thats seems plenty ok, you cant really give someone a number.... it has to be the same or very close number from cylinder to cylinder. just from the differnt brand of compression guages to the spark plug adater lengths used, you will get differnt readings on the same sled with differnt guages brands.

well it was bang on 127 all three jugs and the sled ran perfect so i guess i'll just leave it be and put new rings in it. So Don if you could give me your shipping address i can send the motor to you to have that porting done. just wondering if there's an even more agressive porting you can do to get more out of it? i know your standard port job adds 14-16hp but can you get any more and still keep it trail rideable on premium gas? anyways if you could send me a pm with the info i'd need to ship it and payment details that would be great. oh and do you need the new rings with it or just the pistons? thanks Jon
