So I have a burned up engine in my 97 mm700 and, I'm going to have to replace at least one cylinder and two pistons.

I've heard that the only pistons worth using are oem Yamaha pistons and I've also heard that wiseco pistons are high quality so I'm confused what to do.

Have any of you guys got any experience with the piston kits from wiseco? I can get three 1mm over bore pistons, and the gaskets to go with them for $319, then all I've got to do is bore the cylinders and I'm good. If I'm going to use Yamaha parts I'm going to have to do some serious searching. maybe I can find a used set on here or something.

anyway. Post up some help if you can.

Thanks
-Chris

From what ive heard Wiseco (siezco as ive heard them called) are not as good as the OEM pistons. I think id go with the OEM pistons, got 2 sleds with over 7500 miles on stockers and they still look awesome...

Talk to Rich, im sure he can get you good prices on OEM stuff.

OK. OEM it is then. I've sent Rick a post and I'm on the look for pistons and cylinders.

let me know if you guys know anyone selling such an item.

Wisecos are great pistons, but being forged they expand at a different rate than OEM ones. This requires them to be matched to the cylinders a little differently, and they really need to be warmed up carefully. With the rapid change in temperature that a typical snowmobile engine faces, this can be a problem. Many people do not take this into consideration and have problems, thus the bad rap on Wisecos. Plus if you do burndown or have ring failure, being made of a harder material they can be more damaging to the cylinders and other internal parts.

The OEM pistons are excellent quality, and are very forgiving. It is still a good idea to warm up the engine slowly, but not as critical. If you do burn an OEM piston down, it usually does not hurt Nikasil coated cylinders. In my opinion, these pistons are a much better match for a gas, oil and go trail or off-trail sled.

I always, always, do a thorough warm up. I usually start my sled first thing, then don all my gear while it idles for a good ten minutes.

I let er warm up while I get ready as well, never hurts to make sure your engine is up to proper temp before takin off, especially when im in no rush.

As mentioned earlier, the proeblem some people are having with the wisecos is cold seisures, from not letting the engine warm enough before honkin on er'.

well, problem solved. Bought a engine from Betheviper today. Can't wait to swap it in and get some snow.
