i have a 1997 sx 700. i have a sxr rear skid in the rear already,i picked up a set fo viper shocks and the tie and radius rods+swaybar from sxr. my question is what shock mounts do i need? can i use the stock ones or do i need to order some from hauck powersports? does anyone have an awnser to this question?

I'm about to do mine and I believe you have to remiove the stock mounts and yout new shocks will attach to the bulkhead.....You will see.....The clevis top on the viper shocks goes right on the bulkhead you may need some washers

no, that just lowers the mounting location of the original shocks.
Where do you suggest they install there shocks? to the bulk head? I was told not to do that ! & to buy the hauck adjustable mounts! I do not understand "no" They are long traveling there sleds why would what I showed them be wrong?

i put viper update front & rear shocks ( '03 ER shocks ) on my '97sx 800 last season. sx & vipers use the same front bulkhead. the factory mounts the shocks on the ear on the top of the bulk head on the viper & sxr. remove the '97 shock mounts from the side of the bulk head & push out the alum. spacer @ the top ( ear ) & mount the shocks to the ear the spacer was in. it's that simple. be sure to realign the front ski's parralell to the track, this can take some time. toe out around 1/8".

not those brackets won't long travel the front, they lower the mounting position for the stock shocks, raising the front end up to better match a long traveled rear end. I understand you can acomplish the same thing by putting the stock brackets on the oposite sides and upsid down, or you can just crank the preload of the stock shocks. but none of this hlps to mount the longer viper shocks with a clevis end.

Ditto here for me also, no problem.

here is your answer. Get the rubber bushings from any sled that uses clevis mount shocks. Insert them in your bulkhead where the solid aluminum ones are on the 97. Then attach the shocks there. if you mount them to the adjutable or stock mount it will make it so you have to preload the shock to get it on, and you will actually loose front travel. Maxdlx

Well , I have to apoligize here I was given some bad info here last year when long traveling my 97 600 I spent $45 + some shipping on the Hauck adjustable mounts that I was told to buy! I just went out & removed them & sure enough went together perfect! I was wrong & am sorry for the bad info I put out here! Man you talk about a fight trying to get the viper shocks on to thoes mounts last year & again this summer switching out these 2 sleds!

shock mounting?

so you are saying go directly to the clevis on top. take off the stock mounts? mount them like an sxr? will i have to dremel a small section of the bellypan for clearance?

Yes, I did exactly what this group said it went on like a charm no cutting nothing! I have to order the rubber bushings now but it is the way mine will be done! OK here are 4 pics first with viper shock on the hauck adj mounts #2 wo mounts #3 amount of shaft exposed w/ mount #4 w/o mount
