I fired up my moto ski the other day and it looked like there may be some gas gettin into the exhuast. Is this because it is warm out and she is running like a pig? Or is it my float? Thanks alot for the help

You mean there is liquid gas in the exhaust? If so I would check the float and needle valve. It may be running really rich, but I would check out the carb to be safe.
I sent a pipe flying through the air like that once. Don't want to repeat that again.

Well gas and oil. It looks a little wet on the curves around the exhuaust comin out of the engine? Could it be cause it is warm? I took the carbs off after this happened and was going to clean them but they were already very clean. I mean real clean

Did you check the float level (if that carb has a float bowl)?
What year / model is it?

Thanks for the reply ding no i do not think it has a float bowl. 1974 moto ski grand sport 440 586 miles. Where the float bowl should be, there is about 4 or 5 sections that come offf the bottom of the carb every section has its own gasket. Hope this helps ding thanks alot.
Each section is about 1/4 thick I took them all off and they were really clean. The gaskets in between each layer look like a very fine screen. Maybe that filters the gas dunno. there are verious channels where the gas flows throu the carb in each section pretty interesting. hope this helps. If you need i can go out to the garage and i can tell you what type of carb it is. Thanks alot

That sounds like a diaphragm pump carb. I'll look that model up to see which one was on there stock. Oh, I see you say it is a Walbro. Likely a WDA or similar, I'll go look it up.

The book shows that the BSE 440T that came in that model produced about 33 horsepower and used a Walbro WD-B30 carb. This carb is a diaphragm type with an integral pulse operated fuel pump (hence the diaphragm).
I have rebuilt a number of these units in the past and they are real simple and easy, they just have a lot of layers as you have seen. Take great care when you put it back together to get every thing in the right place, and the screws torqued evenly. Tight but not too tight. It is a good idea to actually replace the diaphragms whenever you take them apart. You can get a complete kit for $10 - $12 bucks or so.
I would get a complete rebuild kit (Dennis Kirk, Shade Tree, Rec Leisure, etc.) and replace all of the gaskets, diaphragms, springs, check balls, check valve, leaf spring and needle valve.
On another note, problems with this carb are usually lack of gas, not too much gas. I guess this is good news.
Sorry so long, but thought something in here might help.

- Make sure all of the diaphragms are below their respective gaskets (including the one in the fuel circuit plate). This is the somewhat rectangular removable plate you can see after you take all of the other plates off.
- Make sure check valve tabs are properly closing off the fuel passages. If not you may have the diaphragm upside down.
- Make sure the springs, check valve, and leaf spring (that funny flat piece of alum.) are all in position.
- Check the needle valve and seat to ensure that it is clean and in good condition to make a good shutoff for the gas.
- The metering lever should be .005 - .020 inch above the surface of the carb body with the carb in an inverted position and the lever resting on the needle valve. In other words a straightedge should just barely deflect the lever when slid across the body. You simply bend the lever to adjust, just don't put any pressure on the needle.

Curiosity made me look, and it appears that it has been a while since I have done one of these. The complete rebuild kits are $25 - $30 now, You can still get a diaphragm and gasket only kit for $8 - $10. I always go with the complete kit myself, but the option is there.

thank you ding was just out in the garage messin with. IT IS OIL THAT IS COMING THROU THE EXHUAST. Some driped out of the exhaust wiped it up with my finger it is black oil. Could this be the fogging oil they used to winterize it. Runs great other than that lol

Could be, but gas actually vaporizes quickly and simply leaves residue including oil left behind. Too much gas, is way safer to just run then not enough, eh?

I have an extra sled so i am not worried to much, about the wait. Till then she will get new plugs and fresh gas. Just wierd to me that it is black oil. If ya have any suggestions feal free. If you are goin to the muni give away you will get to see it. Think I will bring it just for kicks. Thanks
