I sold my 1997 SX 700 this past spring, loved the sled, but it had over 10000 miles on it, and it needed a new home..anyways, Im looking at a 2001 700 SRX, i've heard nothing but good things about these sleds, never got to ride one, but heard there fast as hell...Just want to make sure there all there cracked up to be...Any comments or opinions would be great!! THANKS!!

I had a 2000 SRX and it is all they claim it is when it come to HP. The only draw backs are the suspension is not the best for rough trails and the stock track sucks. Throw a set of Viper shocks or better yet Oliens on it and now your talking. Put a more aggresive track on it w/ 192 studs and you will hand any F7 racer wannabe thier A$$.

Tom is totally,"no pun intended," right on this one...The suspension is horrible for the rough stuff but they are one FAST sled!!!! The sled is also good in the corners too.....get good carbides!!!!! its a must

the suspension isn't as bad as people are making it out to be. It should be a little better than your SX was. the only time you will notice the extra weight is if you get it stuck.

well have you ever took your SRX off the trail?!?!?! I have and imho it sucks bad. At the end of the day Im taking ibprofen for my back pain.

When I'm on a groomed trail its very nice and relaxing.... If you had the extra money I would suggest a M-10 or something on the lines of that.

It just seems to me that the SRX's are like jeep's riding down a rough road...look out

Im not bashing the SRX's cause I own one. They are super fast and responsive. Thats why I bought one in the first place.... I just frown on the suspension part.

Sx700,

The SRX's escpecially the 00 to 02's definatly live up to there reputaion as a giant killer, times are changing as the years go by but let me tell ya that sled still rocks and will definatly beat or at least hang with most any body out there. As mentioned above they definatly are not a big bump sled but it was never intended to be one either, although still respectable in the rough stuff smooth groomed trails is where this sled shines. It rails corners like nothing I have ever ridden, with almost zero body roll it feels like an Indy Car and simply carves. Point that thing down the strait away pull the trigger and hang on, also throttle response is as tight as you can get.

Can you tell I loved my 00 SRX?

Stay away from the ditch banging ad a set of transfer rods and you can do no wrong.

Garth,I think your being a bit harsh. I know you've had your share of problems but........ ;)!
I was debating on a viper or an srx and chose the srx and haven't looked back. They're right, it's no mogal masher by any means. There's many choices at improving it though. It's something you can slowly improve as your wallet thicken's. I've done the longtravel conversion by pioneer. It's better and keeps it low for cornering and somewhat inexpensive. I'll probably go with the expert someday. IMO, it's a great sled for what it was made for and you can still improve it for your riding style.

Really like my 2001 SRX. The stock shocks can be set up to ride fairly nice and as good or better than an SX. I put a set of updated Viper shocks on the skid and it rides as good as any stock suspension and better than the SX.
Only trouble I've had is the nut fell off the silencer mount. This was mostly due to I had it off and forgot to tighten it back up. Also, it doesn't like to bounce off of telephone poles!
At the moment, there is no other sled I would want.
There is currently one on ebay with 1,800 miles on it.

Good luck ;)!

No one has mentioned anything about gas mileage! Well, these sleds are absolutely amazing when it comes to gas mileage too. I have gotten as high as 18-19 miles per gallon.

Ahhhhhh --- Forgot about that, good call!! never seen quite that high but 16 was easy to achieve for me and that is ridin hard.

Spend a couple bucks on suspension and forget about half the post you just read. The Srx is Still the best sled yamaha made in my book!! Pulled them out yesterday and can't wait!!

I love my 01 as well. As people have said about the suspension, i didnt find it to be THAT bad once you get it setup and valved for what you wanna do with it. Biggest problems i had was chains (2) snapping and I totally demolished 1 complete pro action skid.

Since then I have thrown a Expert X with some Ohlins up front, now i can hang with all those REV's and F7's through the rough and kill them on the smooth. As for off trail, I don't think its bad face it they all are heavy burried in 3 ft of snow, this is why you ride with a group of people hehe. Also they brought up gas mileage, it is excellent! I get as good if not better mileage then my dads Rx-1.

I say get the shocks revalved and set up right, throw on some transfer rods, a good track and a set of skis worth something, you'll be all set. Oh and my pops has a 98 sx 7 with some goods on it and its no contest in a race.

Srx

I also love mine, nothin like the feeling of pullin the trigger when gettin onto a groomed trail; or dirt road and having to wait for everyone after the next turn
when finally your skis come down.My buddies 02 viper runs a full tank of fuel to my srx 1\4 tank left at the gas station,,and I'm always in the gas...

Whatever you pick remember reliability!!!!!

was it 2001 or 2002 that Yamaha advertised the fastest production sled in 1000' ft? It still is the fastest to my knowledge, at least the snowgoer doesnt show any 2006 sleds breaking 10 secs. in 1000' feet. It was something like 9.998 secs.

THANKS for all the replys guys!! The suspension is the only thing holding me back, the stock one on my SX wasn't the best either, I put the Viper long travel set up on it, it rode like a cadillac, but sucked in the corners afterwards. There's one at a local dealer for $2500, not sure on the condition though, I can't find one with low miles for under $4000, so now im kinda thinking 4 stroke, but we'll see what I can find in the next few weeks. THANKS AGAIN!!!!!

There are many ways to make them ride great and handle great too. Luckily there are still companies like cbperformance that continue to develop products for these sleds. Cushy shocks with one of their sway bars is just one way to make them rail.
