hello,
I am thinking on updting my 00 sxr 700 to somthing newer 02 or 03 sled.
Leaning toward a viper or similar sled.
I want to keep my electric start and reverse and gain some hp with a trail ride or similar ride.
Anybody have any sugestions on this issue.
all sugestions are wecome here.
thanks joe

Look into 03 rx-1 or warrior. They are getting down to the same price as vipers. I love my viper, but my next sled will be a 4 stroke. The stock rx-1 has plenty of power, and they ride the same as a viper. For the extra 1000 I'd be looking 4 stroke. Maxdlx ps unless you want a tricked out 1 of a kind viper. LOL

I moved from a 98 SRX to an 04 Viper S. I really enjoy the suspension of the S model, the Ohlins are worth every last penny! I just don't think that they offered ER on the Viper S model, but I would recommend it for its ride qualities.

your not going to get much in the way of a power gain from your sxr to a viper. Sxr with head gasket mod and clutching will be side by side w/ stock viper. Raced my father numerous times across the lake and we were side by side the whole way. But the viper definitely has more potential to produce more power.

The Viper is a smoother sled overall, I like my 04 Viper - I'd say unless you're getting an S model or one with Ohlins shocks, I'd keep the SXR and tweak it more to your liking.

I have had twin cylinder SXR's, triple 700 SXR, 700 SRX, 3 Vipers, one "S" and a Warrior. If you are wanting a "simular ride" and want to upgrade to a machine with electric start and reverse I would get a Viper ER. The 2002 ER's ride better with the upgrade shock package offered by Yamaha in 2003 as a parts package. Viper ER's in 2003 and newer came with the upgrade ( softer ) shocks and springs. All the Vipers will have alot more power than your current sled. That is if all sleds being compared are factory stock with NO tweeking. Both my 2002 Vipers(non ER) run side by side with my Warrior. I had my 2002 Viper which is stock except for 96 studs up to 119 MPH on the dream meter on Houghton Lake. The power valve 700 three cylinder Vipers are good on fuel consumtion and actually quieter than a non powervalve 700. I am adding reverse to both of my 2002 Vipers this fall. I am selling my Warrior. To much push in the corners with the 136'' track and extra weight. I did like the sound of the 4 stoke! For speed the SRX! For trail riding comfort and handling, the Vipers! Much better ride than the SXR and SRX.

I would keep the sxr do the mods on the tech page and get your shocks revalved and the sled will be better than a stock viper and save you some coin.

the biggest advantage of the viper is the dual headlight, it's a world of difference at night

I have the 00 sxr and you will not see any real big differences with the 02 Viper. I have riden the 02 Viper. I did some changes to my SXR and prefer t over the stock Viper. Unless you are going to 4 stroke I would not make the switch.

thanks for all the info guys..

I do appreciate all the info you gave me...

I just hope to find a good deal on a sled with electric and reverse this year....
thanks again joe
