i have a 2002 viper with reverse and electric start. it doesn't seem to be recharging the battery. still starts and runs if it is pull started but headlight runs dim and gauges are turning off and on. replaced battery so that isn't it. any ideas please help

Check the stator. Had the same problems . Started with the handwarmers not functioning, then after COMPLETELY checking the wire harness, discovered a broken wire on the stator. Hope this helps,

Hey Dave, where EXACTLY was the broken wire? My hot grips quit working on the last trip in April and battery would lose charge. I'm thinking maybe this is the problem.

It was where the wires come through the stator plate. 1 was burned completely in 2. Took out the CDI circuit for the handwarmers and dropped voltage WAY down. Have to remove the recoil to get at it. Not a quick and easy project. Your condition might be related to the harness or CDI. I didn't do the work, electrical stuff and I don't get along LOL. Had a competent tech at North Country Yamaha in Tomahawk, WI. find it. Hope this helped.
