Anyone see any problems with putting my studded Viper track on an 81 SRX. Any mechanical issues with this, I have 1.075 studs in the track.

i'm not all up to date on the vintages (i'm sure someone will be here any sec) but i think those srx's were 116 tracks. your viper is a 121.

No, the 81 had a 121" track on it. Just wondering if there is any problem with the drivers? I think the track is a .85 lug or something. So I don't think clearance will be an issue.

I ran a .85 on mine with the stock suspension and it was pretty close up front around the drive sprockets , thats where you might have problems

I am 90% sure your studs fill hit the front heat exchanger. I have an 03 Viper track on my 86 V-Max 540. Their isn't enough room for an additional inch of studs. You will be able to with the smaller drivers (7 toothed) will work, but that throws off the gearing ratio. You should also get tunnel protectors. Hope that helps. Brad

LONG LIVE THE 83-87 V-MAX 540'S

there is no front heat exchanger on the 81 srx only a rear and it sit above the tunnel no part of it protrudes thru the tunnel , the only place they might hit will be in front or above the drive cogs . this is where you'll need to measure to make sure they will clear . if they clear , use tunnel protectors as to not damage the rest of the sled when the suspention bottoms out

mine has a wahl bros. track and 1" studs and clears with no problem. just try it . the only way to find out.

thanks guys, there looks to be plenty of clearance in the front, I just wasn't sure if the track itself would work or if I needed to buy an old track with metal guides instead of the rubber blocks on newer tracks. I am putting 1" deep tunnel protectors on. I would like to get a 1" track for my vipe and don't want to have to buy a track and studs for the 81 and the Viper. On another note, anyone know where I can get a clutch puller for the 81. They have one in shade tree but I don't know if it is the right one?
