I have a few question in regards to rebuilding my viper motor that has been flogged for about 10K miles with lots of wide open mountain riding.

1. The cylinder studs seem pretty coroded...(white "rust"). Should they be replaced?

2. I am getting the crank gone through and want the bottom end solid - how do you get the water pump bearing / shaft out?

3. Do any of you reuse the base or head gasket?

4. Do any of you reuse the head bolts?

5. Any other general assemby tips would be great (this is not my first engine rebuild.....just my first yamaha...the damn thing just would not break!!!)

Non-rebuild related:

1. If you used 38mm carbs on your application did the crispness go away compared to stock?

2. How hard is a 780 on the crank...if at all?

Thanks,

Shawn

All cylinder head bolts look that way. as long as they aren't pitted real bad they are ok

I don't know about the water pump shaft bearing, but maybe someone else does.

Reuse the head gasket, after you spray it with cooper coat gasket. i spray mine let it dry, spray it let it dry, and spray it and install it

reuse the head bolts, no problem there
the other 2 questions you need to pose to mrviper he should know. Maxdlx
