i have a 2001 sxr 500 and it only hits 80 mph on gps. tried everything. clutch is set sweet for trail running but in stock or current modified form the fastest it has ever hit was 80mph.
did some searching on the tec pages and found this.........
97-99 500 22/39 gearing with 70l chain
2000-01 21/39 gearing with 68l chain.
could this be where my missing mph is hiding? sled is for sale but this is bugging me.

my buddy had a 99 sx 500 which is short travel vs your long travel I clutched it for him and he could hit 101 on the speedo consistantly I'm not shure how far the speedo is off but yes gear it up you will los a little accelleration but you should see some mph and better gas milage.
