Is it necessary to install protectors for the optional small style rear heat exchanger when running studs in an 02 Viper? See Pic of exchanger.

Thanks Guys

Thats a good question ! Im going to install a rear heat exchanger myself and have a one inch track with 144 studs up the middle . Most vipers ive seen with the rear exchanger and a studded track seem not to have the protectors.

I asked this question not too long ago,and from the responces I got the answer is YES.

I guess if you look at it this way...the price of the protectors(I think they were around $50. new) and the 10min it takes to put them in,it'll save you ALOT of aggrivation AND down time,(and possibly getting stranded),should you have a misshap!!

Yeah I would...I ride hard..and only heard a grinding once...but I left the machine for one weekend up north and told my dad to give er a rip when he got there..needless to say..I didn't know he was gunna double with a buddy...Long story short...it got a lil chewed up...nothing poked through..but close enough...
Our winter last year was sooo powdery that the ground was like a sponge...buut..we don't know what to expect this year...for a lil peace o mind...I'd install them...Just my 2 cents tho...
However..that Heat Xchange looks small in comparison to mine... hmmm...you might be able to pass on the protectors and save some $...
Unsure what others would say...
