Is anyone running this head. Wanna know how it compares to the Peak Performance head that MPI sells. Cause I called to order one from MPI and there are on back order at the moment and dont know when there shipments coming in. Is one better than the other? Let me know any info you have on this head. Thanks.

Hey there...Unfortunetly I can't offer any info regarding the "head"...but curious...
what would the benefits of a newer head be on the Viper...I've heard no more staggered compression...and a few more HP's...and possibly better cooling(if the opticool gasket was used with it).
Long story short...I'm looking at everypossible way on adding more oomph to my viper without adding Tripple pipes...How much HP would either head add...?How about
Jetting...? Sorry if I hijacked this thread...but I saw the Pioneer head aswell and kinda wondered...
cheers

I'm looking for more along the lines for better cooling than more hp. Cause I will be run SLP triples on my sled and gunna do as much as I can to save me money in the long run. You shouldnt have to do anything for jetting just make sure you get the right CC or compression ratio for your riding area. Hauck also sells a head but they want $600 bucks for it so I'm between waiting on the Peak Perf. one or callin up Pioneer and see if they have any in stock. I'm gunna wait a max. of 2 weeks for MPI to call me, then I'll be calling Pioneer Perf.

I have an MPI head and I had it to do over, I would have spent my money on another brand. Unless they have changed, the squish angle is around 8 degrees whichis shallower than the crown on the piston, this led to a stagnant area around my cylinder walls and eventual deto problems. I had a friend machine me up some new ones, so I'm out of trouble there. I was going to replace my MPI head with the Speedwerx/Pioneer head (same thing made by speed) till I found out the heads have the oring grooves cut in them to negate the need for a gasket. I think if you call Speedwerx, they can be had for 300 bucks. let me know if you need any more info on them.

So with the Speedwerk head I wont need to run my Optic-cool head gasket or will I? And are you saying so stay clear of the Peak Perf. head? Let me know cause I dont wanna waste my money and also dont feel like waitin for MPI to call me.

I would not waste my money on the MPI head. That is correct about the gasket. You just need to run the orings. I believe they are the same as the SRX and I'm pretty sure they come with the head. You don't need to run the opti gasket since the new head flows the water the proper way.

X, im running the peak head with slps and haven't had any problem with heat issues. when comparing the different heads, mpi and speed, the designs differ with the mpi resembling srx and megapower heads which seem to be accepted as having better cooling. i haven't tested them, but in theory the water rail design seems better when considering coolant flow.
i had same concerns as u do when i was looking to buy, when i posted questions i was considering megas, peak, and srx heads.
i can tell u that mpi jerked me around for a while, much longer than 2 weeks, so dont wait for them to call u. i was looking for blue heads, told me about a month to get them in, then it went to we have no idea how long their machinist was running other parts... so i went with the aluminum color. they really look sharp.
probably doesnt help u to much making a decision but something else to think about.

I'm goin with the Speedwerxs head, seems like there more into the business of building aftermarket parts for all brands of sleds. Which goes along with more testing than the MPI head, cause I have yet to find the site for the company thats makes the heads for MPI. I would like to learn a lil more about the company that makes such a cruical part of a motor. I'm not down talkin the head, it just seems Speedwerxs is more into the business than the other. As for the Hauck head just to much for my pocket.
Find the phone number for peak performance and call them. they make alot of the parts you see these other companies selling. There is nothing wrong with the peak/mpi head. Maxdlx

The only company I see selling there products is MPI. And what expericence do you have with Peak Head?????? I'm having a guy that runs one telling me to stay clear of it and go with the Speedwerx head. And like I said I cant even find a website for the company and the only source to get the # is calling MPI. Not worth it I'll spend my time ordering the Speedwerx head.

The only company selling the stamped peak head yes is mpi. they do alot of work for other hi perf shops. Shurley you don't think every one of these shops have there own machines for making replaceable dome heads. I ran a peak head on my sx, with 2 layers removed fromt he gasket with final compression of 150. I also had PI end dump pipes on the same sled. once I got my leaking base gasket fixed that sled rocked with there head. How do you know, hes right for saying they are junk, and I am wrong for saying they aren't. The statement is also right about cooling. You get better cooling with a water rail head set up over a non rail setup. I have spent most of the day today researching, and talking to people about these heads. Once again maybe I am wrong, but you stated you wanted better cooling not more HP. Maxdlx
If you don't believe the cooling statement, call them, it is why they changed there design. Maybe the guy who had a bad one had an old one who knows. There original head looked just like speedwerx, and it didn't cool to there liking so they changed to a rail style head. i just spent 35 minutes on the phone with them, very nice guys.

I called Peak Perf today, and talk to them for a while. Ask the reasoning behind the design change from the old to new. Like ya said very nice guys and very informative. But I ask when I can have a Viper head by and they said not for another 2 to 3 weeks. And I cant wait that long with my sled ready to be put back together and snow hittin the ground in the U.P. and Northern Mich. So I order a Speedwerk head for 12:1 comp. So I'll see how she runs and looks on my sled. Dont get worked up Maxdlx I was just asking a question.

Make sure you tell them you want it for the $300 they told me. If you have any problems let me know, I'll stop by there and find out why there're hassling with you.
