Used to frequent this site in the past - been too busy until now. Question on Viper shocks & suspension. I have a first year Viper with the stock suspension. Love the sled - hate the suspension on anything that's not flat. Never touched/updated the shocks. Need to keep the sled for a few more years & am really sick of the stock suspension set up & getting beat up keeping up in the bumps.

I'm no small guy at 6'1" - 250 lbs but really want a better ride. Would rather not pay the $1800-2000 for an Expert-x or M-10 if I don't have to. Seem to recall from being on here a few years ago that guys were getting their shocks rebuilt for their weight & riding style. Any input on this - waste of money ? Way to go ? What difference did it make & where is the best place to have it done ? I'm in Michigan. Oh ya, how much $$ ?

A buddy put remote reservoir Ohlins front & back of his SKS along with long travel front suspension and it made a world of difference. That thing eats bumps now compaired to my Viper. Anything like that available for my Viper ?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Contact Bruce Schrader at pioneer performance. They will revavle and rebuild your shocks to match your weight and riding style at a reasonable price.

shock revalve / rebuild

Call Bruce at B-Line Control in Lindstrom, Mn
I had him rebuild and revalve the Viper shocks I got to long-travel my SX chassis and it was only about $280. He revalved them to my riding style, sled, sled mods and terrain I ride on most and I couldn't be happier.

Wow, $300 sounds a lot better than $1800. Don't want to put words in your mouth, but big difference from stock ? How did it ride different ?

When you say long travel, how is that different from the stock shocks ? Any additional parts other than the rebuilt shocks ?

If the Viper has never had the shock update, it's still available. All four shocks replaced for 189.00.

Gucch,

My '99 SX had the short travel proaction supsension. I bought a set of Viper shocks at Haydays and then had Bruce rebuild and revalve them to fit my sled, my riding style and me. It now handles the bumps MUCH MUCH better in both compression and rebound which in turn gives me a lot more control and allows me to go faster through the rough stuff. The '99 SX chassis's were known for slot-car like handling in the corners which it retained after I put the long travel shocks and limiter straps in. The next step now is to get the longer radious rods and tie rods from a SXR or Viper for the front end so that I can make better use of the long travel front end. All in all this was a great upgrade and like I said in my previous post I couldn't be happier with Bruce's work. He is a former Yami sno-cross shock tech so he really know's his stuff. He currently sets up supsensions for many sno-cross teams for all brands of sleds. Call him and just talk to him for awhile about what you are looking for out of your sled and I am sure that he will have some additional suggestions and informing them on all the various options even if it means he isn't going to make a buck from them. First time I called him to find out how I should go about long traveling my sled we talked for almost and hour.
