my 98 srx will not idle or take the gas, stumbles falls and then quits. it runs much better on half choke... please help

The pilot jets are dirty. Take those carbs apart and clean them. Gotta pull the floatbowls off and remove the main jets and pilot jets and clean them good with carb cleaner and blow out the crud and varnish with compressed air. The pilots control the idle and small throttle openings, so when you aren't getting fuel in the low end and have to use choke to keep it running, that is the first place to look.

remove carb's and clean pilot jets and mains . !!! if you have never done this before have it serviced at a dealer . having clean carbs is a must . if you run lean , you will melt down your engine!!! it is a good idea to have carbs serviced at the begining of every season --just for peice of mind . carb clean = $70 to $100. --top end rebuild = up $1000.00 +++!!!!!
