the chamfered part isn't the part that needs to be spotless. the outside of the body needs the attention because it is the part that comes in contact with the walls of the slot and creates more friction. let em soak and you should be able to get them spotless. plus, the coating on them i believe is a non-stick coating so if there is some residue on them it would be a perfect spot for it to adhere to, where as the clean part would be less likely to stick to.

I always take them completely apart and check where the cable meets the valve.
Use some more carb cleaner and a razor (carefully) and you should get them looking like new.

I agree. take them completly apart, clean the inside of the cylinder too(it's a hard to reach area, but do the best you can). like said before, be carefull not to damage the smooth coating on the valves. Also, don't use any harsh chemicals that some say to use. It's a long and dirty job, but after you've done it once, it should be easier the next time (year).

get some air and a lil' side grinder. a softy pad on will blow it right off close to a shine. needless to say it blows the grime all over you,but there is no need for the gloves.

yes, the air angle grinder works well at LOW speeds and a Soft brillo pad wheel. Did I say LOW SPEED. like 2000 said, be careful not to take any of the anodize coating off. good luck

I like brake klean and a scotchbrite pad. Acetone may work with a scotch brite pad also.

Check with your local GM dealer, a product called "Cleans" . It's used to remove carbon built up. I have used it for 3yrs now. You let them sit overnight and just wipe off. I have seen no evidence of it eating off the coating on the PVs..........James
