I picked up some parts locally and plan to start putting my motor back together. First step is putting the crank case back togehter. I picket up new seals. Is there anything I need to do to these seals to prep them? I also have yamabond #4 (per my dealer) and I plan to run a thin bead/film of it where I'll have top to bottom case connections (but not at the seals.)

Thanks for the input.

I take a smear of wheel bearing grease and apply it to the inside lip of the seals and thin film on crank snout that goes thru the seal so it slides easily over snout.

Not to steal this thread, but should we put a light coat of thread lock on the outside of the seal or on the case halves to hold the seal from a possibly spinning…I’m going through the same thing, I will be closing it up soon…thnks

You shouldn't have to put any extra effort in holding the crank seals in place, there should be a small recess where the seal will ride or rest and that should hold the seal firmly in place and not let it rotate or pop out of the case after the cases are assembled, just be very careful during the assembly process and make sure the seal rides where it is supposed to. yup plus it helps the seal from burning up at the first start up.

I've got most of the parts. Hopefully the rest will be in early this week. I still need to pick up an in-lbs torque wrench. Then I'll be putting it back together and my old parts will be on the market.

I did pull the new to me reed cages and they look good (the reeds that is.) What is an indicator of when reeds go bad?

Also hold them up to the light if you see daylight showing through replace,
they must lay flat against the cages.
