I bought a 1974 moto ski from a guy,and can not locate him to get some type of sales reciept that the secretary of state said I need before i can get my stickers or new registration for it. All I know is that the guy I bought it from got it from some old guy that was put in a nursing home. Does anyone know a way around this? I was thinking of having my friend write me up a sales receipt but I do not want to get busted for it by the state.I KNOW I SHOULD HAVE GOT SOME KIND OF RECIEPT FOR IT WHEN I BOUGHT IT FROM HIM
OR AM I SCREWED? I live in Michigan. Any help would be great. Thank you

You may want to try to get a salvage title at a different branch. A salvage title may be pretty easy to get due to age of machine. Does sled still have registration numbers on it? You may need these.
Yes it does I have all the sticker numbers and everything. They even told me they do not have anything on this machine do to its age.But they need a sales reciept. What should I do?

I live in MI and I can't believe the secretary of state is giving you a hassle, try going to a different branch and tell them someone gave it to you for free. take the serial number for the sled with you. People giving away 30 yr old sleds is not uncommon. also sleds don't have titles in MI (unless they just started titling them in the last few years?).
No they did not want a title they wanted proof of who I bought it from. I have none cause I can not get a hold of the the guy I bought it from. I really dont want to fake a sales reciept I dont need the trouble if I get caught. I dont know how they could catch me but to me it is not worth it. THIS SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

just make a bill of sale! BFD! how can they ever prove other wise? Give them what they want! " I bought it at a flee market" You think they have time to do any kind of "search" on that old sled? you are just one of thousands sending in paper work .

Have a uncle or cousin write a receipt for 1 dollar. Pay your 6 cents in tax and 22 registration fee.
I will give that a go. At a different branch of course. Let ya know what happens next.
I agree with sandman. If they have no record of the sled say your uncle owned it and could not find the title or papers. BTW you guys in mi only pay 22 bucks for registration wth!!

Sandman, you mean $250 right? lol In Ontario we're at $180 before december and $230 after december... and I still think that's a fair price. For $25 i don't know how they still have 1 trail left on the ground!

Yeah it is $25.00 Ontario probably grooms alot more miles than MI. I think Michigan has the most or second most registered snowmobiles in the state which also would help keep costs down. Just about 10 years ago it was only $14.00

Just spend a week-end in Gaylord and you'll understand all about the money.
