Hey Guys,
I have a 2001 SRX with V-Force reeds, trail ported by Bender, gutted air box, heel clicker clutch kit, transfer rods and bender can. Is it worth my time to shave the heads ten thou? I live in Gravenhurst, Ontario what size of main jetting is recommended? Any other suggestions for modifications? I run with alot of Skidoo Mach Z's anything will help. Thanks

If you decide to have the Heads shaved .010 you will gain approx 10 psi in compression, most guys will peel the gasket one layer to achieve this without having to incur any cost of having a machine shop having to set up to cut the heads, plus you can always reverse what you did if you have to by buying a new head gasket in the future. The gains that will ultimately be had is the motor will make it to max rpms faster.

SRX has no head gasket. The 00-02 allready has a very tight squish. If you get mediocre quality fuel you will detonate.

Run stock jetting & if sled is pulling 8500 rpm on the big end it won,t get much better. You can gain some top end by tightening limiters & loosening the track slightly. That can is slowing you down too; get rid of it. Also back off the transfer rods for less transfer for better top end.

Check your squish w/some soder material and then measure. Took .010 off my srx7 heads and finished w/.052. All depends what you start out at. And yes fuel can be an issue but you have to run premium in the srx's anyway just use common sense when 93 isn't available. As far as detonation, I haven't, and I believe the 2000 runs leaner than an 01.Have some Klotz octane w/you and I'd say shave them. ;)!

I run up in Sudbury, Ontario, so our climates won't be much different. Put your airbox back together. Run one size down for jetting, and go up one size on your pilots. If you are running V-Force 3's, get rid of them. They actually lose hp on the SRX's, and are a royal pain in the *** for chipping and cracking. They also richen you up a bit, which is not needed whatsoever. The stock reeds open more than wide enough and will not flutter for the amount of flow you require. As for cut heads, I run them, cut 10 thou, and they work fine on PREMIUM fuel, just as Turk says. It'll bring a bit of the lost throttle responce back from when you ported it. I have had many cases of detonation with mine, so you have to watch your fuel carefully. Also, mine built power at 8700 rpm with my bender ported cylinders and cut heads, so you might want to head to a dyno to see exactly where yours builds power. As for the can, I have done numerous runs with and without the can, and I don't find any difference. It doesn't make power, but it doesn't lose either. Looking for a few other tips? Run the older Vmax style sliders. They're thinner, and there's less friction with them. Absolutely run an extra wheel kit at the bend in the rail, and get rid of hte stock track if you haven't already. A fast track is a camoplast 9791, just about the fastest track you can buy without going to a speed track, but it's only a .725" lug, so it's not the best when it comes to powder. Good luck.

Thanks for all the input guy's. I'm going to get my heads cut .010", should I go with an extra base gasket or just cut the heads. What gearing is best, we generally run alot of lakes and play with the radar gun. Valin you mention your from Sudbury, do you know of any one with a dyno around? Any one have problems running with Amzoil synthetic? What year were you refering to when you said run with earlier Vmax sliders? Cheers!!!

Just cut the heads. It is already ported, and the extra port timing won't benefit you. As for a dyno, head over to Iantomasi in Bowmanville, or Jaws, near Ottawa. Jaws's dyno is alot better mind you.

Sliders....Kimpex # 299392. OEM number should be 21-095-27.

Where are you from Townsend? For gearing, I run 13W Polaris gears, 22/37, most of the time. I ran 128.9mph with mine on the ice with that gearing when it was ported, out of gear.

Hey Valin, Do you have any contact info. for Iantomasi or Jaws? Will they be able to set up my sled or just tell me information? Why do you use Polaris 13w gears? Are they lighter? Which type of oil do you recommend. I have been using Yamalube, seems to gum up my power valves, thinking of Amzoil synthetic. I appreciate your input, not many performance shops around Muskoka.

Hello Vallin. Is that 128 for a 700 ported or with big bore kit? I would like do some work to my 01 srx motor. Best on radar is 114, but would like to know how you guys get these things into the 120 club without sacrificing reliability.
