Guys, bought an 02 Vip builder a few years ago and continue to have problems with the warning light blinking three times with the check engine symbol on at same time. Any thoughts as to what this could be? Also, where is best place to buy a tool to power the power valves?

Thanks!

do a search on powervalves, its been posted many times on how to get them fully open without the tool with your idle. i think tech pages has the viper diag codes.

I had a question like that kinda, just when the sled turns on it should cycle through everything on the dash right and at the end blink the check engine light breafly? Can't even catch it if you not watching, just does that when the tach does it's little thing, is that correct? :dunno:

Yes, however this sled has the lights continue to flash after the initial dance - both the check engine light and the warning light. Check on light stays on and the warning light flashes....cant figure it out!

Check your temp sensor unit for broken wire or just hold it in a diferent way when sarting...seem to recall alot of fellas having some issues with the temp sensor lead...good luck, post back findings

check the tech pages for the viper diagnostic codes. The code the sled is flashing at you can be looked up and it will tell you where the problem is.

Definetly not the YPVS...

2(.75) with 1(.25) quick means = TPS
3(.75 sec) means = thumb warmer
7(.25) = YPVS
there are another 2 with 3...for Fuel Regulator and temp sensor...

Send me your email address and I'll forward you a PDF of the Diagnostic chart...

Just to expand on the note from S.S.Viper . . .

If the lights flash 2 longer flashes (3/4 of a second), followed by one shorter flash (1/4 of a second), and then an even longer pause (1 3/4 seconds) it is either a disconnected, shorted out, or locked Throttle Position Sensor (located on the carb linkage).

If the lights flash 3 longer flashes (3/4 of a second), followed by an even longer pause (1 3/4 seconds) it is a problem with the thumb warmer.

I suspect the latter . . .
  1. Check all wiring connections under the handlebar pad to make sure that plugs are all still connected.
  2. Check all wiring under the handlebar pad to make sure there is no damaged wires.
  3. Isolate the thumb warmer (disnconnect it) and check the resistance.
I had an intermittent problem that turned out to be caused by the wires being to tight due to routing. After rerouting the wires, the problem has not returned.

THanks for all that have replied. I checked under the pad today...unplugged and replugged and still no change. The warning light and engine light flash three three times and then there is a 1-2 sec. delay...then it does it all over again.

I know the grip warmers and thumb warmers are off of an SRX...would that matter?

Thanks!

Light

When you start the sled its cycle through all system as a check prior to you taking off with the unit, it's a self diagnostic test of all monitored components...yes this is normal...

Check coolant levels and also the temp sensor wire leads... A few of my friends had both... can't recall what light flash it was, but one was low coolant the other was a broken wire to the temp sensor the other was low oil level...good luck and post back your results...
