I have a 98 SRX and the crank has never had the update. Yamaha will no longer take care of it but I really have never had any trouble with it. I have 12,000 kms on the machine and it runs great. I wonder if I should be worried about it or did most of the probem ones fail early on in the machines life? Thanks

most of the time they only have a problem if you're running hard clutching and/or are studded, you have to put a jarring load on it to really have a problem.
and honestly.... the difference in cost between fixing it now, and just getting a new crank/case assembly later if it fails, isn't all that much. It'd be cheaper for you to buy a good used crank/crankcase assembly than it would be for you to have someone pull your crank, weld it and replace it.
this is assuming that you're comfortable enough with the machine to change out the bottom end, but not comfortable enough to pull a crank outa the case.

I agree with Junior, and also believe that if you have that many miles on her now, just keep running her. The chances of having a problem with it this far down the road aren't too great. If something does happen, fix it, and you still wont be behind in money.

Thanks for the advice. That's what I was hoping to hear. Looks like she'll be running another year. Its hard to beat those SRX's.
