compression test, would anywhere above 125psi be good with all three cyclinders within 2psi
what else any problem areas to look for.

Look at the W-arm, see if it's broken or cracked, take a good flashlight to see up in the suspension. Look at the raduis rods and trailing arms for any bent. Look underneath the bulhead for signs of bouncing off rocks, etc, look at the heat exchangers for stud damage. Inspect the track for cuts, torn lugs, ripped out studs. Look at the overall condition of the sled/engine compartment. Can't think of too much else without starting to wrench on stuff. You could pull the track down and try each idler on the suspension. If you look real close at the shock shafts, you should be able to see if the seals are leaking. Also look for any nicks or pitting on the shafts.

If it's a '98 SRX, I would make sure the crank update has been done. If it is a 1998 model, get the VIN #, bring it to dealer and he can look it up. Be sure trailing arms are good and straight also. Look close at the W arm, the cracks can be hard to spot. Look to see how clean the sled is under the hood. It can be a good indication of how well the sled was taken care of. Along with SRXer's advice. I'd also look at miles. If it's got 5,000 miles or more, it's probably time for new pistons/rings. The general concensus (sp?) for compression seems to be make sure that all three cylinders are giving you a similar PSI rating. I'm not sure what is acceptable for a SRX, 125 PSI sounds right? Different testers will yield different results also.

Great advice! Also pull the dip stick on the chain case to check oil level and amount of metal filings on end of stick. Oh, and make sure susp. has seen a grease gun
