my little cousin has a 01 sx-r with slp pipes clutched and jetted ,with reeds. the sled was bought with this set up. how can we tell if this mod was done or how do u do this mod ? this is something new to both of us. any help and info would be a great help. i know sounds like a dumb question but im tryin to learn :dunno:

look at the headgasket closely and see if there are 3 layers of headgasket, if there is, the mod hasn't been done. To do this mod with pipes, you'd only want to remove 1 layer of gasket. Take the heads off, drill out the rivet in each gasket, toss the middle layer, spray some high-temp gasket spray on both sides of the gaskets and torque the head back down. Check the ty tech section for the total procedure and torque specs.

Ya, you COULD drill out the little press rivet thing. I tried it and can't stand it... just don't have the patience. I just took some tin snips and cut the little "ear" thingy off where the rivet is located, takes 1/4 of the time. You might want to consider doing it this way if it hasn't been done already. And yes with pipes only take the middle layer out.

i used the bench grinder to grind the rivets down less chance of the bit grabbing and twisting the gasket to s***.
