As most of you know I have 2 97 SX 700's. But one has a 136" track. On the short track that I ride it sees to always suck snow or something and just bog out but when I run it for a short bit it comes out of it. Why is this happening? I have all vents taped except the 2 little ones on top on each side, the one below the headlight, and the very bottom one below the bumper. This always seems to happen but one the 136" it hardly ever happens because it floats better. Does this just happen or is something wrong with my sled? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you running an aftermarket clutch kit with a real steep helix? Sounds like a clutching issue. When your secondary is not backshifting properly in deep snow it feels like your sled has a snow ingestion problem. Try tightening the secondary.I will be in Minot next week & can have a look.

No mods done to the sled. Completely stock. It only does it in deep snow. I can get out of deep snow and stop and it will almost die. But if I run it a short bit in a field it comes out of it real quick. You can get it almost full throttle and it just bogs only in deep powder. Is this caused by sucking snow some how? Is the exhaust deflector in place right in front of the exhaust exit.
My mountain max sometimes bogs in deep snow and I have to tip the right side up to clear it.

Sorry to hear about the bogging problems!.
I have the same problem with my 1999 SRX, here`s one of my threads:

Do a search and you will find several threads about this problem.
For this season I`m getting a Bender Cold air kit, Bender canister and I`m going to make the exhaust deflector larger.
It seems like (from what I`ve read here and there) that the bogging is or can be caused by:
1. The exhaust doesn`t leave the sled due to snow buildup around the exhaust outlet, a deflector must be installed. (bogging from exhaust struggling or see below:
2. Improper sealing between exhaust outlet/chassis so that the exhaust find its way back into the hood, engines doesn`t like co2 with no nutrition
3. Air starvation, the hood vents get blocked by snow, the engine therefor bogs due to rich mixture.
PS, I don`t have a doctor deegree in this so don`t judge me if I`m wrong

It`s so frustrating for me to watch my friends with older V-Max`s (V-Max 4, V-Max 600XT and so on) busting through the powder with no problems.
Last year I had to turn around and go home due to powder problem, man that was annoying.

also tape off the vents that let underhood air to the airbox. They are in the hood between the headlight and the airbox outer vent
