I have two opinions . . . as I am entitled.
1) there will always be that "find of a lifetime" sled from such places as "the old barn at the back 40" or "Grandpa bought this sled right before he quit riding, and "God rest his soul, it's been sitting for 5 years." So sleds will be out there, just need to find 'em. Evidence of this; I love the old Phazers and Exciters (although I love my '02 SRX, also a low mileage find with less than 370 miles on it from a dealer in IA) and I see a good # of these types of sleds turn up on eBay every year. I bought a '96 Phazer last year with less than 150 miles on it and have even seen selds with less than 100 miles on them turn up.
2) These sleds will not turn up much anymore because the SRX was an enthusiast sled; meaning that if someone bought one, they bought it to ride and not sit in the barn collecting dust. A 700 muscle sled is a much different purchase than a 485 fan cooled, i.e. it would be ridden by the owner.
I guess it depends if you are a "glass is half full" or "half empty" type.

Obviously they will get harder and harder to find, but i dont think you have anything to worry about, there really are A LOT of them out there right now and it isn't tough at all to find one in great shape, and the prices really aren't that high at all.

Low snow winters and guys switching to four strokes will help keep the supply of low mileage sleds up. The Guys "enthusiast's" that buy new SRX 700's are the ones that buy every 2-3 years regardless of miles ?

The problem is most Yamaha owners want to keep their machines. If you were lookjing for anything but a Yamaha they are for sale constantly. There will always be a few sleds for sale though. When times get tough the toys get going. If economy don't pick-up you should be able to find alot for sale.

I don't know bud, guys here in Northern Ontario are selling there 00-02 SRX,s for $4000- $5000 around here, I have been looking...Some are cheaper but they either need new tracks ( $750- $1000 ) or they are rusted and bent..The dealer here has a brand new one sitting in the back of the ware house that has never been riddin it's brand new but he wants over $6000 for it. It gets me sick when I see guys in Southern Michigan selling for alot less..I am heading to Traverse City next month so I will be on the lookout......

I seen a still in crate 01 SRX for 7,200$ last year...They are out there, locating them will be pretty hard though.

That amazes me that there are still machines sitting in crates?!
From a dealer cash flow perspective alone, I would think the deler would want to move product no matter what; similar to a car dealer at the end of the model year. They do not want to sit on old inventory.
That said, anyone that comes across anotehr SRX in the crate; give me a PM !!

that guy in soo is nuts on his price for that 2001 srx. when i was looking last spring for a higher performance/fuel efficent sled he quoted me $8500.00 for that sled. he had a 2003 rx1 that was selling for cheaper than that sled and both where brand new. i coulda bought a 2006 venom for cheaper than that srx but i wanted a 700 or a rx. ended up buying a 2005 rxwarrior/se for $10500.00 (plus tax/finace/extend warr etc). i mentioned that sled to their sales person and they said his price was about $1500-2000 too high for that sled.
so in summary, ya i think he is nuts!

you wanna know the sad thing about that sled in the crate in the soo??? me and a friend bought two (in seperate deals) in february of 02 right in season when the exchange rate was good. get this, for 5800 usd otd with a year warrantee and the ohlins shocks. i knew he still had one left and i would ask hiom from time to time how much now. it always went up, never down. stephan is sitting on that sled hoping a collector or an enthusiast really has to have it. then it will pay for itself. supply and demand. small world we all know about that one sled. ski

any srx700 will hardly be scarce they were a big time seller and theres lots and lots of them around.
As for the new ones remmeber one thing, if a dealer has a new one yet, they have made payments on that thing(floorplan) since they took delivery of it, and do so till it sells, so thats why some dealers are not going to give them away, they have more then selling price in them! Also the srx listed for over $8000 retail!! I bought a brand new left over 02 srx from port a couple years ago for $5900 out the door after rebate!

there is a 98 with 36 miles on it on ebay right now, opening bid 3500. you'll have no problems finding one in decent shape for about a decade would be my guess

I just got one for 2000 CDN in sweet shape... it's just a high mileage sled but nothing a little going over won't fix. 15000 km (9000 miles) but for about 1600 US i couldn't pass it up... especially since sleds go for WAY more in Canada than the US. SRX's are still going for $4000 to $5000 CDN here in Ontario.
