I am going to look at a 92 Phazer II tomorrow and I am not sure what the differance between these are? I am fairly knowledgeable about the 1980's phazer 480 f/c.

Is there anything specific I should look out for on this model? its a 92 phazer II with 3400 miles w/ electric start. said to run good. $500 obo. Also this has a two inch track which seems over kill. but the price seems right. the track would cost $500 if purchase new

Same reliable 488 fan cooled motor as introduced new in 84.
These motors when left stock except for Boyssen reeds & an aftermarket pipe are absolutely bullet proof IMHO. Have run that motor to 9,000 + miles & zero problems!!

Big difference from 1st edition Phazers to the "2", a longer track on the Phazer2, went from 116 to 121 & ski stance was widened out for more stability. Got rid of the "squirrelyness". Also more room under the hood for access.

All in all, great dependable sled. Not a screamer or high hp, but fun & nimble in its day. We have a 93 that has been great for the wife, 5th one we've had in the family.

2" track seems a bit "over the top" for the HP on this sled IMO. Now we ride in high altitude so we "lose" some HP, but I would never put more than an 1 .250 to 1.500" track on them just due to HP, but thats me.

I would check compression just to be sure. Bought one a few years back that sounded "ok" seemed ok, ran a bit "rough" was told had been sitting for awhile, all was true, but turned out compression was down to 60-70 on one cylinder, ring had broken just enough to make it weak, gal never noticed loss in HP, ran it that way by the looks of the piston for awhile!!!

Honed it out, new rings, put it back together & it ran great but, paid fair market value at the time. This price sounds pretty fair if it looks & runs.

Good luck.

PS: Got a good stock Yammi track for sale, no holes, tears etc off a Phazer 2, had 1900 miles on it when we converted to a 1' Camo. Track looks real good.

$500.00 ? If it hasn't been beat.... Buy it ! Good post by Racerrob, The II's came stock with hand and thumb warmers. Biggest problem with the T.S.S. sleds are The bolt freezes to the metal bushing inside the steering knuckle and becomes one solid shaft ! With the T.S.S. is with lack of grease on the shaft and bushing and after they stop turning the plastic shims quickly wear out. I grease them every couple years and they stay tight almost forever. And People wonder why the suspension has no give ! ? ! I believe the Phazer II's were the best ever bang for the buck sled ! Good luck

Cool thanks Guys I really hope its as good as the guy claims, I will bring a compresion tester and take a real good look at it. I will let you know what happens.

Got it!!! It looks really good. Belly pan is straight and compression was 125 on both sides.

It hadnt been run since last year so it took a bit to get it going. So I think I will take the Carbs apart and clean them and drain the fuel. .

Also the battery was dead. What is the best way to charge it, will running it charge it enough or should I hook it up to a battery charger. Will a regular 12v car battery charger work on a trick charge?

Only 56hp? Seems like maybe a little more than that? They'll keep up with a 68 hp 440 liquid on the lake.

Back in the day......56Hp. was the limit for crosscountry and Yamaha held them to that level. Probably no other sled out there that responds to an aftermarket pipe like the Phazer ?

My cousin had a Phazer 2...it was a beaut, he pounded on it like pizza dough and
it kept goin...I rode with him on my 96VmaxXT and barely could keep up in the twisties...that max just was a brute...even when I first got my Viper I was breaking it in and he'd still pull up all cocky wanting to play...The Phazer 2 was studded and definetly no slouch in the twisties...he ended up blowing the chain case before the engine...He sold the Phazer picked up a 600 xcsp..and never rode the same again...hehehe

Heres the pics, I am charging the battery and getting ready to rebuild the carbs. Seems to run good but rich. I will take things apart just for piece of mind.

I don't think I've ever heard actual figures on the increased performance... does the pipe help top end?

Not to get you down but that's neither a two inch track or factory long track. Not that it really makes a difference. Long track is long track and that track looks plenty meaty enough.

Hate to disagree, but, check out the decal on top of the tunnel extension,
stock Yammi............ Note: It says "ST" on it. Yammia long track designation
at that time.

Also, the gold color on the skid rails is stock SE colors. So, this is the Yammi
Phazer2 SE edition with the ST suspension. We had one just like this that my wife rode for 2 years. Great sled.

What does look off is the extension has some "other" bolts in it & that maybe what is making it look "not stock".

All in all, for $500 ya sure as heck cannot go wrong. As mentioned in earlier post's, look for a good deal on an aftermarket pipe, consider the Boyssen reeds, & this will really "wake up" that motor. They were "underated" on the HP end and will surprise ya with the pipe & reeds. It will lose around 12 pounds by dumping the stock pipe & can plus, it sounds a lot nicer. :WayCool:

Good find, a little cleaning & detailing under the hood & she sure will look darn good. Have fun, it should serve you well, big bang for the $$$ ;)!

No its not a 2 inch track, thats just what the guy said about it when it was for sale, which I am acctually happy about 2 inch seem like too much track for a 480 fan. It is a 1-1/4" But I am pretty darn sure its a factory long track unless some one did a hell of a job on the tunnel extension.

Also It has a fiberglass belly pan, it that part of the long track mountain edition or did the phazer II's get those. The reason I as is cause my friends 87 phazer has an aluminum belly

I agree with Racerrob it sure looks like my 95 ST. I don't know actual but some of the aftermarket's claimed ~10-15 Hp. over stock ! Btw take the T.S.S. knuckles apart and greese the bushing !

The belly pan is not fiberglass. It is a heavy plastic composite.

I have a spare Phazer2 belly pan in my inventory since I managed years ago to put a pretty good "tear" in one of my wifes Phazer2 on some unseen rocks the 1st time I rode her sled, not good to "scratch wifes sled". :whine:

So now, have a spare for the just "in case" time.
Pan is definately plastic material. ;)!

Yamaha has not had fiberglass belly pans for many years, fact is, dont recall when they had a fiberglass pan?? :dunno:

Guess you guys are right. I should have looked closer. Sure enough though. I just thought the extensions looked different from my exciters. That thing should tear it up, I like those little exciters, you can take them anywhere and they're so easy to ride.
